Snap

So after work today I cruised by Beulah Park to play a race I liked at Hollywood and sat next to some guys I did not remember seeing their before. Long story made short -

I am sitting next to these 2 people and all of a sudden one of them starts yelling "Snap 6, snap. Come on snap damnit". This went on for another 20 to 30 minutes (these two were betting every track they could get a bet in on).
Finally, I spoke my mind. I tapped the one on the shoulder and said please refrain from using the word snap would you please. This guy goes nuts on me, says he will say what he wants. I asked him to please not use the word snap because it sounds as if he wants the horse to break a leg, etc..

I ended up moving to another spot. Anyone ever here of using the term snap? Man that just does not seem cool.

Curt,
I don't like the word at all.
Today it almost happened to me. I was helping bring in horses from the various pastures and I had a new one, a polo pony (cause a LI club puts theirs at the farm for the winter). Anyway, this one was one crazy fella.
He spooked at something, not sure what. Turned me in circles for a couple of minutes but I wasn't letting go.
My arm almost went "snap".
Not a good thing at all.

"One time, 6, one time": you don't want the horse to win again?

"Stop the race": it wouldn't be official if the race were stopped on the backstretch, would it? Why do people yell this?

And what of the guys who feel so self-important when they call a photo finish before seeing the official result, but don't have a wagering say in the outcome? Congratulations, you have great eyesight, bud.

No, he wantedthe horse out of the money. I heard what his ticket was.

some of the kids here say 'snap' as in you just got embarrassed in some way. you know, like if one of your buddies insults you, your other buddies say 'oh snap'.

but not quite sure where that would work anywhere involving a race. unless of course you were hollering it at bernardini after invasor winked at him and went by.

My 7th grader has begun saying "snap!". He and his friends use it as a slightly negative interjection, like, "oh snap, I forgot I have a test today".

I don't know if your two neighbors were using it the same way, but I doubt they meant for the horse to break a leg.

I am a huge fan of using "One time" and that is usually followed by "F'n rat"

My girls say it in the same tone and I asked where they got it from and they said Raven says it on That's So Raven.

That pained me to even type that. I hate to admit in front of a bunch of hardcore horseplayers that I don't have TVG on 24hrs a day.

i actually think the thing to be embarassed about is not that tvg is not on your tv 24/7 -- but that you actually typed "that's so raven" in all seriousness. it wasn't a joke at all. that was incredible, and I enjoyed it, thank you :)

You're welcome bws.

It seems the longer I live with three women, the more my manhood is slipping away.

We can be embarrassed together. My daughter too watches "That's So Raven".

Secondly, Scav, can you root for a horse more than once if you say, "one time?"

Interesting question that is going to make me think, which I am not a HUGE fan of.

That being said, I use "ONE TIME" in the context of "one time something finally go right for me at the track"

As for my track manerisms, I am a leaner if on the lead and if I am closing I am a "One time" er with some program slaps.....

Coach Pants 11-15-2006 10:31 PM

I entertain myself by imitating this old guy that always says, "come on wid dat seeeehben!!"
