Belmont Stakes EXTRAS right here.

Since this the first race of the TC, we'll have our extras here instead of The Derby. Why not? Thinking we have the most unknowns. Post all you picks here. SO LET'S HAVE SOME FUN!!!

1. Straight Tri + 20 bonus pts

2. Straight Ex + 10 bonus pts

3. Horse to finish last + 10 pts

4. Lengths back for last place horse + 10 pts ya don't have to pick the horse (closest guess wins)

We usually give bonus points for guessing the total attendance :D DUH!!!

Questions???

Yes.

Glad you remembered to include these extras, Don Guido. Even with the shorter distance and the absence of spectators it still has the feeling of a "big race day" In the current environment I'll take whatever's available. I will miss hearing the song "New York, New York" just before the post parade. I've got some "little town blues" that I'd like to have "just melting away".

Do you by any chance have an over/under about how many of our group will choose Jungle Runner for category #3 of your extras? I realize that there is a difference between the horse least likely to win and the horse most likely to finish last, but I suspect he will garner lots of support.

Yes, it will be odd not to follow the age old Triple Crown in sequence especially if we have a potential TC winner. I'll miss all the songs and the hype and the hats and the anticipation. The big three races are one of several sporting events that mark my year: College World Series, college football (watching my Clemson Tigers roll along with many other games), The Breeders Cup and CFP Championship, although played in January (hopefully Clemson will represent again).

It will interesting to see if we have a horse win the first two. What a build up for the Derby, And if there is a TC winner this years, there will be a big asterisk by the accomplishment.

Hard to make a case for Jungle Runner to be anything other than last, but I guess, if you were an irrepressible optimist, he has only been last in 1 of 8 starts; however, none of those races compared to this race except the Arkansas Derby which he somehow managed to be next to last in. He looks like he might have trouble winning an N1X. All that said, this race looks like the pace will be demanding and who knows? Maybe he'll be able to prevail over some of those need the lead types that decide to give it up after chasing a torrid pace.:D

If there was any chance of rain, I would say that would be the reason for Asmussen entering him. I think that Asmussen seems to excel at entering long shots that often hit the board at long odds on an off track; however, I don't think rain is in the forecast so that doesn't seem to have any credence. Who knows? H-O-F trainer so I probably have no business questioning.

16 and a half, I think, but will go back and look at it again. DRF has a chart of the results and so does brisnet. Fore Left was the next to last and he beat Jungle by 16 and a half. I guess the answer depends on your interpretation of last. Is it the number of lengths behind the next to the last horse or the number of lengths behind the winner? If behind the winner then it is a little over 39 lengths. Don will have to make a ruling on the subject.

Yes, the number of lengths behind the winner. He finished 39 1/4 lengths back according to the Equibase full charts.
