Rumors of Ritvo’s departure have dogged the company for more than a year. Within The Stronach Group, Ritvo was considered a vital conduit to implementing the company’s policies, some of which were extremely unpopular with horsemen and other racing constituents.

Hard to assess how much permanent damage to the industry is left in his wake.

Goes beyond the circumstances in California that contributed to the spate of fatalities and their aftermath.

I gotta say...as someone born and raised in Massachusetts, who got started at Suffolk and Rockingham, who moved to SoCal and got some ownership skin (a little) in the game, and whose dad has had skin in the game in New England and now FL and WV and OH.....

Never thought this was going to work (Tim in SoCal). Never ever thought it would work. Sometimes bringing the Boston guy to Calif works...sometimes it's a dismal failure. Sometimes you get Ben Affleck, sometimes you get Casey.
