Question about The Arabs

I was eating my normal breakfast with my buddies and wouldnt you know that horse racing came up. We were talking about the pick 6 and how someone actually had it which amazes me. Anyway, I said some Arab prob had the tickets. My buddy said that the Arabs do not bet and that it is against their religion--is this true?

Gambling is forbidden in Islam. So is alcohol. There's no wagering at Dubai itself, correct?

I am close to some Muslims who wager on races, love putting up money on fantasy football and can drink with the best of them. In America I think Islam, as practiced by the average person, is as it is in Christianity. Which I think, also frowns on gambling, and weren't the temperance advocates of the 19th Century Christian?

Can't beat vice-- it's just too much fun.

So while I imagine the pix six winner could be Arab in origin (or Irish or Japanese, or anything else), they likely would not be a devout Muslim. (Whether they claim to be is not my business. :))

Thank you Genuine--that helps me understand a little.

Also the reason that for the races at Dubai, in the form they do not have odds listed next to them for the race since there is no wagering at the track.

There is no OFFICIAL betting in Dubai for the World Cup, just like there was no official betting at the brush tracks in Texas in years past. What people get up to on their own, between friends (supposedly), is something the track management has no control over, or cares to look into carefully.

I know one the the P6 winners, he's not an Arab.

If you are implying that the Maktoums "fixed" the races, no way.

No, the two that split that ticket definitely aren't.
