We did have a TC winner in '06

It would be the #8. #8 won the Derby, Preakness and Belmont. I wonder what the odds on that happening is.

20 Derby starters x 9 Preakness Starters x 12 Belmont starters = 2160 possible combinations of winning numbers. The odds of the unique combination 8/8/8 are 1/2160

You can't really say the odds were 1/2160 for the same number to win all 3races though. It was a given that a horse with a particular number would win the Derby so the formula should be for the odds of that number repeating 2 more times.

The actual odds of the number of the Derby winner also being the number of the Preakness and Belmont winner this year is 9/20(since 11 numbers would have no chance) x 1/9 x 1/12 = 9/2160 or 1/240.

So take your choice. 2160-1 or 240-1 depending on how you want to spin it.
