please forgive me for this stupid couple of ques

ok here goes and remember im 88 go easy on the sarcastic stuff lol

what is a beyer number? how does one come up with a beyer number/ what goes into a horse running around the track and then some company coming up with a byer for him or her?
is it based on speed? or something else

and heres a crazy one
can a horse running 3rd have a higherbeyer number then the winner of the same race?
I only ask that because what if the 3rd place horse ran say 65 feet more then the winner and got beat 2 lengths
could it be possible that his number could be higher because of circumstances?
ok fire away about being a dummy

There are no stupid questions, ontheoutside...just stuff we don't know about yet.:D

This article will help explain the basics of the Beyers - hope it helps.

No, a horse running third cannot have a higher Beyer number.

It can have a better Thorograph or Ragozin number that reflects added distance and race factors. Of course you pay a premium to buy those numbers.
