Giacomo

This colt looks excellent training over the cushion track at Hollywood Park. He's got higher knee action...

I won't be tossing him as I originally planned to.

Hickory Hill Hoff 11-01-2006 04:19 PM

He's your "price" horse in triples and supers...don't leave him off your ticket!

Thats one problem with handicapping this race, too many good horses !!! and they all look good...

SCUDSBROTHER 11-01-2006 05:25 PM

I'm pretty sure he will be disgusted and be dull if the pace is moderate. On the other hand, if they give him a sharp pace,he will look totally different out there(his stride will look great, and he will be ready to make a run towards the front.) When they go into the turn,if he is within 5 lengths of the lead, then he usually won't run well(the reason he ran reasonably well last time was the pace was decent, not hot,but decent..he wanted it hotter..Nakatani didn't oblige him.).If he is 7 or 8 lengths out of the lead, then the pace is probably pretty good ,and he has a chance to make the board. If he is like 10-15 lengths back, and they are running a 22'3 or something, then G haterz beware.

No thanks. I was checking his Beyers (cause Rags and **** are too expensive) and it looks like he's due for a regression off his last.

Pointg5 11-01-2006 05:32 PM

No regression with him, I haven't been his biggest fan, but there's no reason he can't be 2 if it's white hot, 3rd mildly hot, or 4th off of an avg pace...I see a very hot pace and think he could run 2nd, he likes the track and distance...

Only ITM 50% (2 of 4 at 10f) and honestly I just dont put much into his effort at CD because that race was just too ****ed up with Chestnut going 45 1/5, 1:09 2/5 early...

He's not fast that fast, but I believe the pace will be hot. He won't regress off of that last race fig, he's already hit that level before, there's no reason to see a regression.

Appreciate the info Mwind, even if you are a Bengals fan ;) . Maybe Giac-strap can get up for the show but I'm leaning against. Sun King's my closer!

Pointg5 11-01-2006 06:00 PM

If the Bengals lose Sunday, that pretty much means Baltimore wins the Division...

Merrill Hoge lives around here and does a weekly radio program, he said the Steelers are still going to win the Division....

SCUDSBROTHER 11-01-2006 06:19 PM

P DRIFT is the more consistent price horse for the exotics.I don't think he needs the hot pace, and he has been top 3 in every race he has had here.9 starts..1 win..3 seconds, and 5 third place finishes.

Rileyoriley 11-01-2006 07:07 PM

Giacamo has looked great all week. I'll box him with Bernardini.

Hickory Hill Hoff 11-01-2006 07:58 PM

Too many blows to the head?

I'm a "die-hard" STEELER fan, but Merril's comments are a longshot, like Giacomo winning the Classic. Last week's lost to Oakland was the back-breaker. Ben shouldn't have played and he might end up like Merrill, with a short career from too many hits to the head.:(

Cajungator26 11-01-2006 08:07 PM

Look guys...

I'm well aware that Giacomo is slow, yada yada yada... but IMO, this horse has looked amazing working and I'm impressed. It'd be another upset if he won, but I just can't leave him off of my tickets.

Suffolk Shippers 11-01-2006 10:00 PM

If Giacomo wins I may quit the racing game, permanently. I almost did when he won the Derby and he upset my Closing Argument/Afleet Alex exacta box.
I was cursing up and down that afternoon...I can only imagine if he wins the Classic. Girlfriend will likely send me out for a few days.

He messed up my exacta box as well, BUT if there's enough pace up front, he has a legit shot.

Yeah, there would be nothing worse for the game than to see owners who actually kept their Derby winner in training for a 4yo season be rewarded with a BC Classic win.

Pedigree Ann 11-02-2006 10:30 AM

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Giacomo is a good one-paced horse who depends on keeping on past tired horses. The only way he beats first class horses is if they go bonkers on the front end and kill each other off, ala the Kentucky Derby of 2005. The Pacific Classic last year would have been perfect for him, but he wasn't there and Borrego fulfilled the role of 'closer' taking advantage of an insane pace.

2Hot4TV 11-02-2006 10:34 AM

Giacomo is a plodder not a closer. I respect him as a past Derby winner and give him no chance in the Classic.
