Scorpion has won in Europe at 12f and 14.5f so there is no doubt he will be ok at that distance here. His condition has to be a concern with only one race this year and that was a loss in a low class race. There should be no question about his class though. U don't become a multiple group one winner in France and England without being pretty damn good and his best race was in defeat, when beaten 1/2 length by Hurricane Run in the Irish Derby. I expect him to be near the back of the pack and will be coming on late, especially if the pace is on the faster side. I just think it's going to be too late and not enough.
Red Rocks is interesting to me. What I don't like is that after nine career starts, his only wins have come in a maiden (in his fourth race) and in a small listed stakes. He's held his own in group one and two races since then though, although those certainly weren't the best races over there. But he hasn't won. His biggest claim to fame is coming within two lengths of subsequent Arc winner Rail Link in the Grand Prix de Paris. His Timeform numbers don't come near Hurricane Run though and don't even match up with the best that Cacique and Scorpion have gotten. Also, even though both of his wins have come at 10f and he has two close seconds at 12f, I get the feeling that he's not going to appreciate that distance here. Or better, I don't think he'll like it at the pace he'll get. If u look at his comment lines, u see that he really likes to lead or run close to the pace. But as slow as they run the races over there, u still see that he was caught from behind in all three of his 12f races. I think that if he tries to be around the front here, with the expected faster pace than he's used to, he's going to be found wanting in the lane. So in other words, I don't expect much at all from this horse.
