Since Ed is my buddy and I talked to him at length about Derby strategy this year, I can say with 100% certainty that what he said was accurate. He was against Always Dreaming (as was I), and the superfectas played by the Player's Pool were all his. There was nothing nefarious about the approach. It was probably not in good taste for Scully to post a winning ticket when the pool lost, however.

The tweet of Scully's winning ticket came from the official TwinSpires account, not his personal account. In the video, DeRosa brought up Scully's success, unprompted. Trying to portray Scully as the bad guy is most assuredly not in good taste.

Maybe it's just me, but a $30,000 pool of other people's money doesn't seem like a good occasion to take a strong stand against one of the most likely winners in the race.

Exactly, if I was betting like RHT and had 30k at my disposal, you best BELIEVE that I'm spending ( at least ) $720 on a superfecta ticket that has the favorite on top of 10 other boxed horses.

Sorry brotha, I saw the shot, and TOOK the shot. Just some good natured ribbing, rht. Nothing more.

And in full disclosure, I would've STILL missed out on the super bc Bsttle of Midway was one of my first tosses. Saw him as a pace casualty. Goes to show what I know!

Absolutely HORRIBLE/HORRIFIC/EMBARRASSINGLY POOR execution by those in charge of disposing of the allocated funds!

I typically toss a few bucks into Ed's pools, including this pool. IMO Ed made a few mistake that he acknowledge's and will make changes. I know he feels bad, I know it came off poorly. That said not the end of the world

??? The twinspires Twitter account is a shared account. I have no idea who posted the pic. Not in any way painting Scully as "the bad guy."

I've thought the same, but it's easy for us to play MMQB and say "I would have done this/that", but at the end of the day isn't the objective to construct the most optimal ticket based on your opinion? In this case, I would have done the same. I didn't like Always Dreaming, and neither did he. Thus, take a stand against. (I have not seen the actual tickets played since we cannot enter the pools in California, so I don't know what the amount of money was excluding said horse.) It shouldn't matter that it's "other people's money", since in essence they are investing in your "expertise."

There is an enormous difference playing against a favorite with a few hundred dollars of your own money and playing with $30,000 of other people's money, losing every cent of it when one of the most likely winners comes in, and then having a piece of a separate, contradictory winning ticket on your own. It's a goddamn joke Phil, and if he wasn't your boy, you would be saying that too instead of this lame "oh it's easy to MMQB" bullshit.

Thank you Steve for broaching the topic with both James and Ed on your shows.

I'm sure it wasn't easy as you are close with both of them. You did your listeners a real service and I think you handled it very professionally.

Had addressed on Night School already with James and were requisite ATR discussions. Appreciate you and everyone listening and being open to DeRosa response and adjustments going forward.

Steve, you handled the topic as I would of expected "First Class". There are plenty of horseplayers that appreciate you bringing it up. Hope they make the proper adjustments moving forward.
