Question about futures/Vegas
 

Hi people.

Read here everyday. Stay low key, cause I feel if you don't know your stuff or make a mistake while posting, you get swallowed alive on this board. Enjoy the posts/topics.

I have a question about LasVegas and don't know who to ask.

My friend is going to Vegas this week and I wanted to know: Is it possible to bet on a horse winning the 2007 KentuckyDerby? This horse has one start, broke his maiden last week at Delaware. I know he might never enter in any big races, but I would not mind laying 20$ on him. Do they accept the bet if I give my friend money? If so, where in LasVegas? (I have never been).

Re: the KY Derby, maybe, but they usually don't come out until November/December ish, at least from what I know of....

I'm sporadic around here, but I'm with Scavs in saying post away.

As to future wagering on individual horses, the early "sleepers" like the one you seem to know about generally go into a category of "all others" at not all that generous of odds. If the casino is making book.

Maybe 20-1, or 35-1 at most. Maybe more in a larger house.

Often you'll find the future wagering offers significantly lower odds than what you might eventually get on the same horse...... IF it goes on Derby Day.

I like fun sports futures on things like baseball and football, but I'm not too attracted to long term futures on the thoroughbreds.

But, for a $20 investment, you might have more than enough fun in holding that ticket for a few months.

I don't know when the Derby futures come out, But you could try calling the Hilton and Caesar's Palace. They both have big racebooks and are active with futures.

I agree with the rest about not to worry about being stupid, this is horse racing and if 70% are wrong all the time, we'd all make money which we don't so were actually dumber than that.

As for the future bet, above comments are correct.

What may be interesting if you are internet savy is to try to contact an English bookmaker. WM Hill or Ladbrooks for example. They will take a bet on anything and will most likely give you the odds you are looking for.

I remember when I lived there a guy had a dream about a horse winning the Grand National a year in advance and they took a bet on it at 500-1.

Have your friend go to the Wynn. John Avello, the race and sports book director, will add your horse to their list even if it is not there right now. He will take action on anything horse related.

You can bet futures on the Derby starting in August in a few select books out there. Ask for a number on the horse over at Wynn and if you don't like it, don't bet it. Bargain a bit if it isn't on the board. If you aren't putting a lot down, you are more likely to get a price you want.

I agree to check out Wynn. I made a couple futures bets there last year the night before the Breeders Cup. I took a $10 flyer on such strong derby contenders like Music School and Half ours. :D

Make sure your horse is nominated to run in the Derby before you place the bet.

I may be wrong, but I think most of the Vegas Derby futures start shortly after the BC
