I've got to ask - why do they still call this day of state bred racing the Sunshine Millions? We have a card that includes 5 stakes races for Florida breds that have total combined purses of $600,000. I think there was a time when the total purses equaled the million mark, or perhaps it was combined with similar races in the sunshine of California, but not any more. Oh well, what's in a name?

Yes it should not be called the Sunshine Millions any more if this is going to be the norm. Pretty odd!!!

Hi all

Apologies for missing this week- go to the grocery store to buy milk, and I turn it into an hour long circular sales/closeout hunting/couponing extravaganza :)

When the Sunshine Millions first came around, they would get full fields with the additional purses; I think it predated the Magna 5 by a year or two. So this *was* a major event for the first few years. Then they started to scale back the purses, and shockingly this turned into a much smaller affair. The Cal horses wouldn't travel to Florida and vice versa with the lower amounts- and so you'd end up with a 7 horse field at Gulfstream with 5 or 6 of the horses based in Florida. Now it's pretty much just keeping the use of the name. <sigh>

But hey, we'll do the Pegasus thing instead, and see if that works out

Have a happy weekend! Time to go handicap the Fair Grounds :)
Ron
