War Front to Claiborne

http://breeding.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=35947

I dont know about this one. Good horse out of a nice racemare who's turning into a great producer, but he's just not sexy to me. His family isnt a "Claiborne type" family, but maybe they see something I dont. Im guessing its the Danzig connection.

Cajungator26 10-24-2006 08:55 AM

I would guess that he'll be in Danzig's old stall.

Balletto 10-24-2006 08:59 AM

Yeah, but I would have waited to see what Danzig's last crop has to offer before "settling". But I guess Claiborne cant compete monetarily with some of the larger operations, so they take gambles on second tier racers.

Hes a well bred horse who has high speed. Thats been the case lately.

Balletto 10-24-2006 09:07 AM

I would agree he's got speed... but do you consider him a top tier sprinter? His dam has been solid in production and was solid on the track, but the family behind her isnt anything to write home about. Just seems like an odd pick for Claiborne, other than the Danzig connection.

Its pretty competitive out there for sires B.
The top end ones are going for ridiculous money and everyone seems to be trying to let the lesser tier ones. Its a crazy market.

Yeah, I understand that. Sort of where im coming from... I think this is quite indicative of Claiborne's placing on the farm hierarchy now. Either they need to start expanding books, or the Phipps, Delschneider, and their own mares better start producing some nice colts for them.

I think I read it in the initial late March release from Claiborne, but the heck if I can find an archive on their site.

I can ask Lansdon about that Fager.

Kasept 10-24-2006 09:48 AM

Lansdon Robbins did say that Samurai was getting Danzig's stall when he discussed the deal with Claiborne on ATRAB..

Cool. Thanks for the correction, everyone.

altho claiborne may not have the buying power of coolmore or darley, they're doing ok--seeking the gold stands for a good bit, as does pulpit....and seth hanc ock is seeing his faith in arch repaid (finally) and his stud fee has risen for next year. i trust his judgement in horses, his brother as well! i'm sure there's a reason they went for war front, danzig being part of it. that guy was good to them, and they to him, all those years. danzig colts have been doing well here and overseas siring champions, maybe he'll be another!

Bold Reasoning 10-25-2006 05:57 PM

I have a strong feeling that War Front will do very well at Claiborne. Another of their "second-tier" stallions gave us Seattle Slew. The sire was Bold Reasoning; he was gone too soon. :(
