I made a small bet on Lani yesterday. Thought he had maybe a 5% chance to win the race. I'll generally take 30-1 when I think it ought to be 20-1.

Here's his chart comment, which could account for at least 2 of the 5 lengths he lost by: "LANI bobbled at the break and was away last, dropped far back early and raced off the rail, began a run leaving the three eighths, steadied off heels soon into the lane, angled out to split rivals, lugged in briefly near the eighth pole, corrected and kept on with good energy." (emphasis added)

Is there a word for listing losing bets after-the-fact? What's the opposite of redboarding? I'll blueboard my other two losing win bets: Uncle Lino and Laoban, my only consolation being that neither finished last.

I put a decent win bet on him, I admit it. Same reasons you mentioned. I thought he was a bad overlay. Terrible start, he must have been close to 30 lengths back & lost by 5. Terrible ride IMO. His momentum also got stopped at the top of the stretch & it looked to me that he shied or got hit by someone's whip. He looked to be rolling pretty good at the end, but it was way too late. Behind by 30 (or so) lengths & losing by only 5 with a bad break and bad ride....that's enough for me, I'll bet him back & take my chances. Don't imagine I'll get 30-1 again!

He passes. By Tapit out of Sunday Silence mare. Bred to be any kind. We still haven't seen his best.

i think cherry wine will have a lot of backers in the Belmont given the distance.
I, like most, also fall into that, "since the Belmont is a 1 1/2, it sets up perfect for a deep closer" methodology, which RARELY works out.

Also add in Suddenbreakingnews into the same thought process.

I realize this is a blog, but this is downright terrible. Surprised Twinspires would post such garbage.

Think Destin has a big shot here Brian.

A wacky horse with a Japanese jockey. Last four starts are 5, 9, 1 and 5. Go ahead and beat me.

I'll pass.

I totally get it. How can I resist a horse the commentators called "The Hannibal Lecter" of the field on Preakness Day?
