Hot dog! I figured they would rule that way, how could they not?

This is a red letter day for equality, the conservatives are already condemning the decision..."only god" etc. etc. We've already heard from most Republican Presidential candidates, they are displeased and are rushing to placate their base...rough couple days for the right.

'every person alive at the time of ratification, and almost everyone else in the time since.'

Poor scalia. He might pull a muscle. And is he really suggesting we keep all our laws as they were? That would bring back slavery, wouldn't it?

As for god, she doesn't enter into it

Shocking 2 days of wonderful decisions! Don't suppose they could toss in a reversal of Citizens United. Nah too much to hope for lol. Fine couple days worth of rulings though. :)

And Bobby Jindal went even further, suggesting that we may need to “get rid” of the Supreme Court in the wake of their decision.

An amazing story. I love reading stuff like this...its almost like brief but fascinating stop in a small town on a road trip. You don't expect much, and find an unforgettable place.

Glad to know that political grandstanding aside, people exhibit the ability to do the right thing..

just saw this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/0...n_7691172.html

how ironic, since it's the Cleburne county clerk. Cleburne county is named for Patrick Cleburne, an irish immigrant who lived in Helena, AR. he signed up to fight for the south. he was killed late in the war, battle of franklin i believe . I went to Helena a few months back, first time I'd ever been there. pre-war, it was the largest city in Arkansas. not any more, it never really recovered. went up into the confederate cemetery, where Cleburne and others are buried. fixed a couple of the poor soldiers tomb stones that had fallen over.
every time I go to a battlefield, or a cemetery, I think..what a damn waste.

I keep telling myself..."we are a free country, we have freedom" over and over, maybe I will be convinced that this is true one of these days

http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/george-ta...es-our-dignity

i found thomas' comments about slaves and dignity/humanity absolutely appalling.
and now this, from george takei, interred during ww2. i've driven by that spot in arkansas many times where he and his family were forced to live. there's a marker explaining what was there, another part of history some wish to ignore or pretend never happened.

holy crap, the comment about thomas' wife made me loo her up. she's lobbied against the aca, and accepted money from the kochs...and he 'inadvertently' left her earnings out of an income report.
