Interesting Kentucky Derby Pedigree Angles

Over the next few weeks I am going to pull out some pedigree stats pertaining to past winners of the Kentucky Derby. This may help you narrow down your selections, or you may just throw them out. Here are a couple:

Point one is meaningless. Most of the Storm Cats had no business being in the Derby, and as far as him not showing up in any winner's pedigree, look at Mr. Prospector.

He was born in 1970, and his first descendant to win was in 1990, with Unbridled. Next one was in 1995. Now it's common.

As to point two, sixteen of the last seventeen winners have Native Dancer in their blood. Only the awful Giacomo doesn't.

The Derby WIN Rules were pretty simple until last year when CC won

Updated

Raise A Native Line- 9 of Last 14

Finished 1/2 in Last Prep- 22 of Last 27

2 Starts as 3 yr old- 5 of Last 6

Trainer NEVER Won the Derby- Last 11 all DIFFERENT

DI-Under 4.00

So look for a horse that has a DI Under 4.00,is trained by someone who has NEVER won the Derby, has ONLY 2 starts as a 3 yr old,Finished 1/2 in last prep and is in the Raise A Native Line- TOO WIN!!!! :p

or NOT since CC broke half of them last year HAHA

A decade ago you had to have 3/4 starts and no more than 4 week gap between last race and Derby. You also had a string of 15 years where it was Lukas, Baffert, and Zito. Geldings and Raise a Native line were tosses. Rules are meant to be broken.

NICE!!! much obliged....a gelding i believe....i still have losing ticket from the belmont with him.

do you think that's the only NY winner?

Kitan 04-14-2015 11:49 PM

I believe he is the only one. Ten have run since and none have finished ITM. Samraat 5th last year, Went the Day Well 4th in 2012. I think we'll see one hit the board this year.
