Why are Democrats trying to limit free speech?

(rhetorical question)

The ALCU weighs in.

And this is why the ACLU is important and deserving of one's discretionary charitable dollars. The proposed amendment is an attempt to limit the damage done by the Supreme Court's terrible Citizens United decision. But the ACLU's legal minds are looking at the proposal in a broader sense and pointing out how the good intentions of minimizing Citizens United could eventually end up hurting freedom of speech.

The Senator who proposed it isn't attempting to limit free speech; he's attempting to limit Big Money's monopoly on free speech. I'm mixed about it. One the one hand, yes, Citizens United was a terrible, terrible decision. On the other hand, there's a law of demising returns and a lot of rich people don't appear to be buyings as many elections as they might have in the past. I don't weep any tears for the hundreds of millions Sheldon Adelson spent on trying to make President Romney.

Hell, I doubt she'll win, but Zephyr Teachout sent a real scare into Cuomo. I voted for her today. If I want a Republican to govern, I'll vote for an actual Republican. Andrew Cuomo is to Mario Cuomo as Mitt Romney is to George Romney. The apple didn't just fall far from the tree; it rolled into an entirely different pasture.

He's attempting to limit "Big Money's" efforts to oust him and fellow Democrats, attempting to keep the lid on the failures of the administration and its supporters. By limiting "Big Money's" dissent, people will get their information from newspapers (lol) and the evening news (ROR), both Democrat dominated.

By the way, Harry Reid is mad that Republicans are bringing the amendment to the floor for debate. Those damned obstructionists!

Cuoma and surrogates have been attacking her and running mate Tim Wu for lacking the qualifications to run the state. Teachout, in a radio interview, said that ethics also count. “When people ask me why vote for you, what are your qualifications? One of them is that I’m not under federal investigation,” she said. :tro:

Absolutely the ultra-wealthy support the Right, because the Right gives them the control over the government they want. As someone who is not a billionaire, I don't think that billionaires should control the government. The whole point of the American Revolution was to get away from the aristocracy.

Basically, you have to decide who has more of your best interests at heart, the government, or Big Business. And frankly, I trust government more than I do Big Business.

The latest is that, the USDA, in an effort to save money, is going to fire 1000 poultry inspectors and trust the poultry companies to inspect the dead chickens themselves, while increasing the number one inspector will look at to almost 200 per hour. That's gonna work out great.

You're deluded if you think the media is Democratic-leaning. That includes the NY Times, who not only cheerleaded the Iraq War into existence, but, while admitting Cuomo has been terrible for NY, couldn't bring themselves to endorse Teachout. Because they know which side their bread is buttered on, and it ain't the side of the middle class.

Who has my best interests at heart? I do. Neither big business nor government, except that both want my dollars. You're deluded if you believe that politicians are looking out for you.

Do you sincerely believe that the media is conservative? More perceive otherwise.
