Historical Racing Terminals in Texas - Passed

Has anyone seen this in their State? Are they any real source of revenue to the tracks?

They ban online wagering in Texas but pass for slot-like machines at Racetracks.

This will be great for mom and pop racing operations but as a bettor I will have to agree with you. I will have to meet one person who will use these machines regularly.

There are about 4 or 5 locations where one can actually bet in the whole state let alone want to even use an HRT. Focusing on HRTs and not a State run ADW is a step backwards in my opinion.

I suppose if an ultra conservative state like Arizona allowed phone wagering there is possibly hope for Texas in the future.

Oaklawn seems to have benefited from them. They have renovated one end of the clubhouse a couple of times so that they could accommodate more machines. They started out as HRTs, but they pretty much have morphed to plain old slot machines now. I can't tell the difference. Arkansas might be a bit different than a lot of places though. Oaklawn pretty much has a monopoly here. They also have these machines in West Memphis at the dog track, but Oaklawn is more centrally located and probably pulls in a lot of people who vacation here and some who have houses on the lakes. The dog track is next to a more populous area just outside of Memphis, but they are in direct competition with the riverboat casinos about a half hour south of Memphis.
