Atlantic City: The best racebook is now the only racebook

Hi guys,

Was at Borgata this weekend for their $10,000 handicapper tournament. The racebook was exceedingly crowded -overflowing. The tournament was in a separate room.

I learned that the reason is that all of the other casinos have closed their racebooks - notably Caesars and Harrah's. Supposedly it's because they did not want to pay the fees for the wire services.

Anyway, Borgata has always been the best one, but now it's the only one. If you go, call in advance and reserve a seat. Hate to admit that I have their number in my smartphone, but it's kind of essential.

Joe

It is bogus that they allow people to call and reserve seats without regard to how much play you are giving them. Seems you need to call way in advance.

I agree that the seats are hard to get, but now it is likely a capacity problem. Ironically, for a "dying" game it is actually hard to get into the racebook, physically, to place a bet, let alone if you needed a place to put a computer and a chair to sit on.

The boxman at the craps table I was shooting at said that he wouldn't be surprised if they made the racebook bigger to accommodate the increased demand.

By the way - next Borgata tournament is on September 6th if anyone is interested.

Think they should embrace the tournament game and start running bigger tournaments (Like WYNN), feeders for NHC etc. I would think that 90% of players would drop money elsewhere in the casino and probably a larger amount than the Blue Hairs that Atlantic City currently caters to.

It has always been the nicest one in AC, but damn it is small.

Don't know where your from JB but Harrah's in Philly isn't bad.
