2/26: Gulfstream Park (6th-10th)

GULFSTREAM PARK

POST-SCRATCHES

6th: OC/N2X, 4+, 11.5f-T/12' (P5, P3, DD)

Mysterious 3 turn turf event doesn't have a whole lot of pace. Looking to inside players for the most part and hard not to key off Dannhauser even if he's half of the 20-1 ML..

Best Value: #5 Dannhauser 20-1 4th
Next Best: #4 Treasury Devil 10-1 3rd
Exotics Use: #6 Draw Two 6-1 2nd
Super Add: #9 Wonderful Breeze 8-1 5th

7th: Silks Run, 4+, 5f-T/84' (P4, P3, DD)

Nice set of 10 for this out-of-nowhere turf sprint stake. Seems like at least half the field can win. Nice to see Geo. Weaver get Fiddler's Patriot, gone a year and a half, back to the races..

Most Likely: #2 Varsity 7-2 2nd
Best Value: #3 Bold Thunder 12-1 WON ($15.60)
Next Best: #4 Travelin Man 3-1 6th
Exotics Use: #7 The Brothers War 15-1 9th

8th: CLM/N2L, 4+, 7.5f-T/12' (P3, DD)

Best Value: #7 Rapacious 10-1 2nd
Next Best: #9 Dreamalot 3-1 9th
Exotics Use: #5 Start Up 8-1 5th
Super Add: #1 Love Doctor Bill 5-1 6th

9th:OC/S-ALW, 3yo-F, 1m (DD)

Most Likely: #8 Stately Defense 7-5 3rd
Best Value: #5 Another Incident 12-1 5th
Next Best: #2 Gdansk 3-1 WON ($7.80)

10th: CLM, 4+, 8.5f-T/84' (Super Hi-5)

Fun, well-matched group to end multis..

Best Value: #10 El Uno 12-1 7th
Next Best: #2 Sleepless Knight 3-1 4th
Exotics Use: #4 Key to Power 8-1 WON ($9.40)
Super Add: #8 Big John B 6-1 -
Hi-5 Play: #3 Symphony Forty One 4-1 3rd

"Weaver get Fiddler's Patriot, gone a year and a half, back to the races"
Starts him right back in a stake.
And Rosario jumps aboard a horse that has a history of winning off layoffs. Very interesting

That turf course is a joke.

They need rain down there, yes, but winner was speed of the speed. You think that was a bias-aided result?

My thought was to let him beat me. I thought that about Tattenham too though.

More frustration of having the 2nd through 4th on my ticket and not the winner but you can make a case that the 8th was.

Same situation.. Maybe, but that was a pretty clever ride on the 2nd choice. Talked on ATR about how Lopez was going to approach race with Defiant after drawing in. Favorite made up plenty of ground. Let's see what happens in the nightcap. There's no clear speed. Maybe someone tries to steal away..

I've seen much worse, but you have to at least acknowledge that it isn't very easy to close on dirt or turf right now.

I get they need rain but are there no sprinklers there? What has the track super been doing the last 2 days?

Not so simple Jay. Sprinklers only keep the topsoil layer green. Soaking rain that gets to the root system is the only way to soften and get real cut in firm turf. Nightcap was run fairly, no?

Nothing is ever simple when it comes to Gulfstream Steve. There is a built in excuse for everything they do, or don't do.

As I said, I'm not saying it is impossible to close on the course. But I don't think you want to be too far off the pace. When there is a contested pace (as was the case in the last and in the sprint stake on Sunday) it makes it easier to close.
