It begins the year before, when the Jets and Bill Parcells had the first pick in the draft. Archie Manning only needed a guarantee from Parcells that he would draft Peyton, and he would have come out that year. But Parcells was more interested in trading the pick, looking for quantity over quality, and wouldn't give Archie the guarantee. So he stayed in school. |
