Nice story. Nothing was mentioned about the horses he rode. According to Herbie Crimson Satan was the best.

Understandable, considering that the writer wrote this:
In those days, says a racing expert, horse racing was one of America's biggest attractions.
As if he had to get that tidbit from "a racing expert?"

Presumably a reporter would have asked him about his favorite mounts.

A nice piece, in spite of that.

late in his career, he was riding for Frank Bertolino, when stepped foot on the grounds at suffolk everything he got on was 4 in front in a flash. You couldn't stop him. Craziest thing I ever saw. He was weird with the whip. never cocking it. holding it like an icepick and hitting the horse. Never got picked up, always held them together.. Once the streak ended, It was like when Chop chop's knees went on him.
