Rolling DD at SA (UPDATE: Return for Spring Meet)

DD at Santa Anita has been reduced to 18 percent BUT there are no more rolling doubles. I believe there will be only 2 or 3 offered a day.
Makes no sense to me.

That is genius  I was planning on playing rolling DD's into and out of the graded races today. Looks like I will be betting 1 Double instead of 4. My handle goes from 400 down to 100 and just for principal I won't throw the 300 into other pools.

Its a method to force you bet the pick 3....a costlier product. Makes more sense to have (3) pick 3s a day than to abolish the rolling DD.

You reduce the takeout and reduce the number of DD there are. How is this a win for the track and a win for the fans?

At least the Q is gone.

Well the numbers speak for themselves.

Santa Anita Opening day 2013 all sources handle vs 2012 Down (248,439.00)

Santa Anita Opening day 2013 Daily Double handle vs 2012 Down (185,274.00)

Something looks off from the first number, all sources handle for the card was 248k?

Alabama Stakes 12-27-2013 09:03 AM

Thanks.

18% takeout spread over two races is a very good bet if you have any opinion at all.

Well, of course, they offered several less DDs to bet. There is much more to handle being down than removing some DDs from the menu. You could have posted a similar stat about Quinellas.

I think you have missed the point here bud. The thread was about Santa Anita doing away with rolling Doubles which many of us like to play. We said we didn't think it was a good Idea. First day handle is down 248 K from last year and nearly 75% of that is from the daily double pool. If Santa Anita's managements goal was to produce less revenue by offering less choices than they nailed it. Will be interesting if they will quickly realize the error of their ways or will ego's come into play and they will blame "other factors".

Good point. I'll bet on "other factors" being the cited reason. Never fails.

Or they will cite the results and come to the conclusion that lowering take-out doesn't generate more play while giving us crap races to bet on 1-2 4-5 8-9 (Graded race into Maiden Claimer). If they really want to see if this works bring back the rolling doubles at a reduced takeout. They can't do any worse doing that then where they are headed now if they keep the status quo.

pointman 12-27-2013 02:00 PM

As a doubles player, I welcome the reduced takeout but the decision to not offer rolling doubles is incredibly foolish. The thought that they are going to increase individual pools by making them more rare, so to speak, is laughable.

Guess my Santa Anita handle will be cut significantly. Mind boggling decision to me. I would expect such stupidity from governmental entities not private entities.

helicopter11 12-27-2013 02:57 PM

As an experiment they should bite the bullet and lower take out on all bets on a few days of the 109 day meet as part of a promotion. Its already an extended meet, couldnt hurt to try.

jms62 03-16-2014 11:53 AM

Now they started moving the graded stakes to the 7th so we can't bet a late double. I'm sure they are way smarter than us neophytes who have been betting for decades. :zz:

I also , miss the rolling doubles, and wish they would go to $1 DD's which i use as savers, and go to 50 cent p3's but being that they get shortt fields i willnot hold my breath. IMHO, they are trying to beef up p3,4,6 handle and get higher takeouts and bigger payouts and carryovers inp6, as Trevor "The Shill " Denman babbles on and on about it.

Port Conway Lane 04-11-2014 06:41 PM

Rolling doubles back starting 4/25 at 18% takeout.
