Keeneland
So…., since going to Keeneland for the first time this past Sept. I have already been back twice. I love getting there early and watching the horses work. The problem is I don't know what I'm seeing, as far as who is on the track,, are they working or jogging, etc. I'm pretty sure there is not a program of the horses working, but is there some way for me to know who is who? Maybe if I stood at the break? For instance, I know Wise Dan is stabled there and would love to see him in the morning, but how do I know when he will be on the track? Just love it there!!!

The link below shows a pic of the Saddle Pad that Charlie Lopresti used during training hours at Saratoga:

Also Wise Dan has an irregular quarter stocking on his left hind
Horses jogging may be going the wrong way...Horses breezing will be going the right way. Try locating the 5/8's pole, the half mile pole and the 3/8's pole... watch for horses approaching these poles at a faster clip frequently trainers work their horse every 7 days or so...print out the work tab from 7 days prior (6 & 8 days also) and that will give you a starting point for who will be working on the day you are there |
If ya really want to get into the morning works, get a stop watch and time the horses ..start the watch from which ever pole the horse breaks from...get the splits at each 1/8 mile pole til they get to the finish line... and don't stop the watch til they get to the pole that's 1/8 mile past the finish line. (this will give you the first gallop out time)
you can get digital stop watches on ebay or elsewhere...I recommend a three line watch: http://www.sperdirect.com/100-memory...h-185-prd1.htm |
