Marriage Equality in New Jersey

Now, see, Garden State, that wasn't so hard, was it? Congrats to all the newlyweds today.

I rode the PATH train last week (to go meet our new dog, shoutout to you, Liberty Humane Society!), and there was an ad for New Jersey with a list of things that were "coming back" (Microbrews, the Shore, etc.) and at the bottom of the list was "Gay Marriage." They were right about that one. Heh.

Gov. Christie has withdrawn his appeal of the ruling, per Twitter.

oh noes, now everyone in jersey has to get gay married...

:D

how long before all states have to recognize other states' marriages? they already do with 'straight' marriage.

what gets me is when people yell 'states rights' without really thinking about what they're saying. it's often just a case of them disagreeing with the subject at hand, while ignoring the fact that states can't trample on rights guaranteed in the constitution, regardless of size of any majority. else we'd still have slavery, only certain people voting, etc.

Took them long enough. No reason our gay friends can't be as miserable as the rest of us....JK

The lawyers are going to love the additional divorce business that follows.

Divorces, wills, pre-nups, post-nups, trust funds, health care proxies- marriage is a legal arrangement, after all.

My husband and I don't exactly have much of anything, but our wills and health care proxy stuff took quite a while and are very long documents. I can only imagine what it's like for couples who actually HAVE estates. ;)

we need to do estate planning.....

ugh

And an Oklahoma couple manages to exploit a loophole and get legally married. In Oklahoma:

Only makes sense for the Garden State to now legalize marijuana. As spoken in the bible. My lord they knew their shiat back then and we've been misinterpreting it for thousands of years.
