Princess of Sylmar

My personal thoughts:

If she skips The BC Distaff, she is 3yr old Champion, regardless of BC results

If she runs in The Distaff and loses to Beholder or Close Hatches, she could lose Championship Honors

If she runs in The Classic against The boys, and loses, she still is a lock for year end honors, BUT if she beats the Boys, she would be Horse of The Year

Your Thoughts?

my thoughts..

i want all the top horses to race against each other. all the rest of it doesn't mean a thing to me. people used to want to breed the best, produce the best, and win with the best.
now, they want to win a couple with colts and get a big stud deal. or win a couple with a filly and sell as a broodmare, for big bucks. it's a mindset of do just enough, but not too much...because if you try too much, you might lose.

Would be thrilled to see her run again wherever she goes in the Cup.

If Beholder wins the Distaff and Princess doesn't run in the BC, I could see some people arguing that Beholder ran the better race in the Oaks and Princess should have shown up for the Distaff therefore voting for Beholder.

Eclipse Awards aside, Princess is hot now so I would run. There is plenty of time for vacation from November - May and it is no guarantee that she will be better afterwards.

There is precedent for this- remember when Pico Central beat Speightstown in the Vosburgh? Pico skips the BC sprint and retires. Speightstown wins the BC Sprint, and wins the Eclipse award right?

close hatches has a pretty nice little resume I'm not say I agree with this but if she wins the distaff she could be 3 year old Filly champion

Pico Central didn't retire...he ran in the Cigar Mile and lost. Had he won, he likely would have gotten the Eclipse...which he absolutely deserved. A perfect example that too many voters don't pay attention to the entire year of racing.

I assume he ran poorly at least in that race? I dont remember it was a while ago.

Voters are too shortsighted to make a subjective call of Beholder running the better race in the Oaks. Princess has the 3yo division sewn up.

I think the vote will go to Close Hatches if both horses go in the Distaff and Hatches wins.

He ran well, a close 3rd behind Lion Tamer and Badge of Silver while spotting both 8 pounds.

I don't think there is a chance she could pass with with a win in the Distaff.

Who knew Sterno gives you such a strong buzz.

I'm not saying that I necessarily agree with thatI'm just saying that the voters there's always so much of an emphasis on the Breeders Cup races thats it thats the point I'm trying to make

randallscott35 10-13-2013 07:29 PM

3 yr old filly seems wrapped up IMO. POS resume is beyond comparison with the rest of that group.

Danzig 10-19-2013 07:38 PM

saw that she worked well, and is being pointed to the distaff. great news!

Loved the Ed Stanco interview on ATR Thurs. You can just hear the love and pride he has for his horse. Sure there are gonna be feel good stories for the BC and reasons to root for different outcomes, but surely this would have to be one of the biggest ones. Bet her or not, it would be so cool if she won. Don't forget who bred Princess of Sylmar's dam Storm Dixie--Ken Ramsey. I'm sure he'd prefer a horse from his immediate program won all the races, but he's gotta be rooting for Catienus' broodmare sire stats too. ;)

Alabama Stakes 10-20-2013 09:32 PM

she'll win the Distaff, that will answer any questions.
