While I admittedly am no fan of Mr Hansen, unless you own lots of mares that fit and are willing to spend a whole lot more than he probably was willing to, not selling at least a large % of a stallion makes no sense.

Hansen's dam was claimed for $5,000 and she raced at Mountaineer.

Even though he's a son of Tapit, I always assumed his female family would be a turn-off for breeders...if his 3yo season wasn't a big enough turn-off itself.

Not to South Korea where they have Zippy Chippy currently standing.

he said in the article that he'd bought a bunch of mares to send to hansen. of course, i have no idea how many his idea of a 'bunch' is. and of course it makes sense to sell. what i find funny is his umbrage at them taking the money and running. they got offered a good deal, they took it-it's business.

If he cared so much, he could've done more than he did. Didn't the Chapmans have some arrangement involving Smarty Jones and going overseas? I know he's since shuttled to South America, but what was the thing before with Three Chimneys? Is there anything keeping them from selling him to Asia tomorrow?

if i remember correctly, they have to get permission to move him overseas...that the chapmans gave their blessing to smarty shuttling. the doc says he wishes he'd included something in there about blocking them moving the horse overseas. of course he also mentions that the farm made more from the s. koreans than he made from them, so maybe he just is angry about the $$? hard to tell what that guy is thinking, or what he really means. he always came across as a clown who had no clue about doing right by the horse. why else would he pester a horse several times on a race day because he wanted the horses tail dyed blue?

Exactly. Look, I like a showman as much as anybody. The Derby wouldn't be what is it without that. I'd rather they be more like Ken Ramsey even though you can argue 'showman' doesn't really do him justice. He's fun, enthusiastic, puts his money not only into the sport but to support his own stallion. We're covered in kittens. Who doesn't enjoy that? I like owners that make me smile, not cringe.
