Just a 71 but that was a neat race he ran coming from so far behind. Takes after his dam, Golden Sonata, who was a dead last closer. I was at her win in the race now known as the Azeri in 2004 at Oaklawn and she came from 20 lengths out.

ntamm, i know im pushing my luck here but last one i'll ask about is Medal Count ran on 9/1 at Ellis park i dont remember the race number

as for the 71 i told the coworker thats really not a huge problem i dont think b/c i always get nervous when some horse runs some huge beyer in 1st race from what i have seen (i have NO proof to back this up) it doesn't seem to pan out mving towards KD and other big 3 yr old races. just my .02 told him that its kinda odd, i think, for Bill mott to win 1st time out and for sure dont know what Bernardinis do 1st time out.

Bernardini offspring pretty much suck since his first crop.

Nick,

Has there been a documented reason as to why Bernardin's foals are crapping out? I know that sometimes "it is the way it is," but man was he was regally bred.

It's really mind boggling. The drop-off has been sudden and dramatic, especially given how his stud fee doubled in just over one year's time.

many times it's the way it is. there have been some very well-bred horses over the years who just didn't make it at stud.
like tesio said, breed the best to the best...and hope for the best.
supposedly one in ten makes it as a stud. so, he's a better shot of being the 90%.

that could be an issue, too.
typically horses fees drop off after the first year or two, while other horses hit the scene, and to keep people coming to your horse who isn't 'new' anymore, but hasn't got anything on the track yet either to judge ability by. and as the best mares go elsewhere, is he suffering from not getting the pick of the litter anymore?
