Trakus debuts at BEL today

Didn't know today was the day but heard it from Andy on Talking Horses just now. Eager to see how it looks.

Jockey Agent Excuse #289: "It wasn't a bad ride as much as it was a bad trakus"

Belated for NYRA.

What would be nice is if one of these tracks actually
made the data available in a usable format.
They are paying for it, after all.

At least a few tracks are using Trakus as the official times. Yes, more will be nice some day for sure. I know I look forward to it.

A negative spin on a significant positive for NY racing. Shocker.

Less than a week ago he made this post....

Which, honestly makes this last post of his more than a little puzzling.

What's puzzling? NYRA is the preeminent circuit out there and they're something like the 10th to get TRAKUS.

I don't bother with TRAKUS because I don't have the time to manually get the information. I just don't get why tracks pay for the service then agree to have it disseminated in a form that's really not efficient for anyone playing more than a single track. Moreover, I know that there's much more info on the TRAKUS site. Why not make 1/8ths or 1/16ths available to the public? Doesn't the track pay for that additional info?

But, my real beef here is that we're not getting all that we can as horseplayers. It's NOT Equibase data. So make it available to people.

Maybe NYRA will finally do this.

And what's sad is that people in the industry just don't get it. What are you guys defending? It's crumbs. Give us the full product.

You're all over the map. I get it, you're defensive.

What's truly puzzling is how you don't understand why it took NYRA this long to install Trakus. It isn't free, and it wasn't until fairly recently that NYRA had the money to install Trakus. This isn't exactly fresh information, unless someone only wants to believe what is convenient for their opinions.

Regardless, I agree that Trakus provides a lot of information, and hopefully we at NYRA can help disseminate this information to our customers. It is certainly our intention to do so. Hopefully people that care about Trakus will give us some time to figure out how to best do this. We always try as hard as we can to give our customers the best handicapping information we can provide. Hopefully we can further this with Trakus.

Claiming that:

1) NYRA's entry was 'belated'
2) the TRAKUS data as presented on the NYRA site (all other TRAKUS track sites) and the TRAKUS site is not easily accessible

is being 'defensive'?

No doubt the technology is significantly better than its dated predecessor. But why not make it available in other than cut and paste or web crawl format? I'd love to incorporate it into my handicapping but I don't have the time to:

1) cut and paste and then have to do a ton of formatting
2) write (or setup) a web crawler

I mean, it's laughable that this data isn't in HTML format, for example. It's f u c k i n data -- either offer it for free or sell it. Why the EQUIBASElike presentation? Oh, and I realize that this is not NYRA's doing but the standard from TRAKUS. Makes one wonder, doesn't it?

Here's a chance for NYRA to step beyond the norm.
