Del Mar gets ready for a Breeder's Cup

Del Mar kicks off $5 million turf course expansion

He said the new course would have a huge economic impact on San Diego and would make Del Mar eligible to host the Breeder’s Cup — considered the Super Bowl of horse racing — as early as 2015.

Geez Geekie maybe the BC committee can host a contest whereby people think of other ways to make it even more unfair to the rest of the country.

I am so thankful I live here and get to go again this year (and next) but come on.... it's getting ridiculous.

For the love of God give it to Belmont.

The last time I went to *Belmont and saw the Breeder's Cup

1. The weather sucked

2. The seating sucked

3. Cannon Shell told me he thought Battle One had a shot :D:{>:

No thanks - give me Southern California !

*But is was better than Arlington - talk about cold

A Breeders' Cup at Belmont separates the weak from the strong.

yes, ny can be cold. so are many of the stadiums that hold nfl games.

belmont should be put back in the mix, i can see another go at woodbine, too.
hialeah....oh, hold one at hialeah.
i tire of the socal only bit. and it doesn't make much sense, knowing handle at churchill is better than handle anywhere else.
it's too bad that the bc has turned so far away from its original plan.

I'm curious how they plan on expanding a facility that currently is bursting at the seams (in every respect) at 40k?

Plenty of room in the infield for bleacher seating:o

Hard to believe they have any room to make the turf course wider though.

Colonial Downs has the turf couses, and good weather. Still think Saratoga would be awesome. Hosses have been dealing with winter since they came here.

Did Santa Anita draw more than 40k last year? It sure didn't feel like it being there.

Good or bad, Del Mar is a lock to get the BC in 2015 in my opinion.

Other than the turf courses, the place is a total dump and is the worst managed track I have ever seen.

Just don't expect much and bring your own drinks and plan to bet using your phone. It would be my last choice of track in the mid-atlantic region, but they do draw some decent fields for their two big days.

55k Saturday at SA last year.. Having it at DMR is fine. I'm just curious where they're going to put even 50k comfortably.

Thanks. Sometimes I forget just how huge Santa Anita is. A big crowd seemed small in that place.

if they take the same approach to ticketing for the bc as they do opening day, you just keep cramming bodies in and hope the seams hold.

http://www.dmtc.com/season/tickets/faq.php

I want to come to Opening Day, what do I need to order?

To enter the facility, all you need is an Opening Day Admission Ticket. You may order these in advance or purchase Admission as you walk through the gate. We never “sell out” of Admissions. If you would like a Reserved Seat, you may order them through the Online Ticket Office beginning May 11th. The Clubhouse admission price for Opening Day is $20.00 and the Stretch Run is $10.00. Discount Admission books are not valid on Opening Day. If you are purchasing Reserved Seating for Opening Day be sure to also purchase Opening Day Stretch Run or Opening Day Clubhouse Admission.

Why are Admissions and Reserved Seats a separate charge?

Not everyone who comes to the racetrack wants a Reserved Seat. Some prefer to spend their time in the paddock, infield, or one of the many sports pubs. Children 17 and under do not require an Admission Ticket but will require a seat if you are purchasing Reserved Seating or Dining Tables.
