Jack Fisher

Stall brought only good ones up last year. Ralph Nicks is always dangerous.

Some other guys: McPeek, Matz, Wilkes, Lopresti, Catalano, Trombetta, Margolis.

One of my favorite things about Saratoga is its convergence of training talent.

parsixfarms 07-02-2013 06:39 AM

Steve Margolis will not have a string here this summer.

Watch for Merrill Scherer in claiming races.

It will be interesting to see how John Shirreffs fares at Saratoga now that he is off the "Left" Coast....

I have been keeping a close eye on one of his 3-yr old colts in particular......

can't believe he didn't feel that the Champ deserved to run at the Spa, as is every hoss' dream. Unforgivable.

hoovesupsideyourhead 07-02-2013 09:31 AM

alan iwinski..with jv up..gary gullio. and tom bush are consistant winners at double digit odds every year.

He's always wrong, but never in doubt.

I have a number of trainer stats for Saratoga, but I thought this one was interesting.

19 trainers have 100 or more starts on dirt at Saratoga between 2008 and 2012. Only one has a positive ROI. Who is it?

Three trainers have ROIs below $1.00. That'll be tough, but can anyone name them?

I was about to say Linda Rice, but then I saw the "dirt" part. Her ROI on turf has to be fantastic.

I'm gonna guess George Weaver for the first question.

Doubtful he has 100 starts.

cmorioles 07-02-2013 11:50 AM

Mott has to be close to the 1.00 mark, though he has gotten better in recent years on dirt.

Right. Her turf ROI is a gaudy $2.44 from 258 starters. That is tremendous.

Asmussen's dirt ROI is a very respectable $1.87 from 216 starters. Kimmel's is $1.74 from 109 starters.

As CJ suspected, Weaver has only 87 dirt starters during that period, but his ROI is $1.97

Bingo! The 2011 meet helped it quite a bit. With exactly 100 dirt starters, Chad Brown's ROI is $2.18

Mott is $1.00 right on the nose!

Albertrani has to be one of the sub 1 guys.
