Perry could very easily call another session specifically to address this bill.

yes, he could. will have to wait and see if he will...and one thing crossed my mind while thinking about that happening.
i wonder how many have to be there to constitute a quorum, and could we see the same thing that's happened in the past, where legislators leave the state to avoid going into session?
also, not sure how much calling special sessions costs, or how willing he'd be to do it again. i'd have to think they'd wait a while to try to get things settled down. and to give them time to wash the egg off their faces.


i'd have to think the most embarrassing part is that they got caught trying to alter the time of the vote. naughty naughty

I just don't understand what the long-term thinking is. I get the gerrymandering; they're trying to solidify GOP power in a state that is rapidly changing, demographically. But the assaults on abortion rights I just don't understand. They're not popular, they get women voters angry enough to disrupt proceedings and they motivate turnout for Democrats.

Most politicians do things from a place of "What will get me reelected." I just don't see how this motivates enough single issue voters to get someone reelected who wouldn't have been otherwise if they'd simply ignored the issue.

In a nation where one out of three women will have an abortion by the time she is 45, I think they're counting on a lot of cognitive dissonance among those women. Or that gerrymandering will protect them?

and the moron gov. already called another special session. i wonder how much those cost taxpayers, because that stuff isn't free. i know here in arkansas, the ledge only gets paid when in session and receives per diem for each day as well.
begins july 1.

i'll be watching to see if we will be treated to another state having runaway legislators leaving the state to avoid the session, and thus, not have a quorum.

it costs over 800K for a 30 day special session. they just had one, and now perry's called another....

i hope they decide to bail on this one too! oh, it would be hilarious. and avoiding the session would be better than texas taxpayers having to pay for a losing legal battle if the stuff passes.

On the other hand, there's her colleague, one of the sponsors of the bill just (temporarily) defeated, who had this to say in response to an attempt to amend the bill to exclude rape victims:

"In the emergency room they have what’s called rape kits, where a woman can get cleaned out," said state Rep. Jodie Laubenberg (R), sponsor of the controversial SB 5, according to The Associated Press.
