A shame.

Just kidding.

That's wild.. Gonna make next Saturday slightly less enjoyable, and so much for me getting a decent price on Bernardini.

Wouldn't be shocked Ateam.

If they want HOY, they have no choice!

Wow, I'm so unhappy about this. Poor Invasor - what lousy timing. I hope he'll be ok. A high fever can take a lot out of a horse; even if they choose to supplement, will he be at his best?

DaHoss, I agree with you - this sucks. I thought Bernardini was going to win anyway, but Invasor is such a good horse. Unbelievable.......

Watch Sun King end up in this race now. Telling you Zito is making a mistake by training up. No excuse not to throw him in there now.

Well, according to the Bloodhorse he is just very doubtful, not COMPLETELY out.... Sounds like someone is scared of Bernardini.....

I wonder why it would cost $750,000 to supplement him. I thought with the new rule that it was just a one-time fee of $150,000.

pmayjr 09-30-2006 05:36 PM

ESPN's coverage was making it out that he was questionable, but not out for sure of the JCGC. But Invasor is not supplimented?

hmmm

I believe that there was a deadline to take advantage of that and that it's passed.

I'm not surprised at all to see Invasor not running here. I didn't think they wanted to be there anyway. I'd be more surprised actually to see him in the Classic than if he misses it. Here's how I see it playing out.

Bernardini-goes in the Classic ONLY with a win in the JCGC.
Discreet Cat-goes in the Classic ONLY with a win tomorrow AND a Bernardini loss in the JCGC.
Invasor-goes in the Classic ONLY if Discreet Cat AND Bernardini both lose.

I am sure we will not get more horses in the JCGC. Several Trainers mentioned that they would run in the JCGC if one of the to big ones scratched.

I think that's way off. Bernardini goes in the Classic as long as he doesn't hurt himself in the JCGC. There's no way Discreet Cat is going in the Classic, and Invasor will only go if Bernardini doesn't totally romp next week.

The sure as heck don't want Invasor actually beating Bernardini either. Why risk it? If they ran and Invasor won, then Bernardini's HOTY would be out the window. That's why you'll never see DC run against Bernardini either -- DC would leave him in the dust and they know that.

As good as they are as horsemen, they are even better at business. A JCGC win, followed by a BC win, and HOTY, and Bernardini's stud fee would be astronomical.

It would be stupid to let one of their other horses ruin all that. Looks like they can almost manipulate the market at this point doesn't it?

They didn't get all that money by being nice guys.

I'm glad you know what the Sheikh's think about DC and Bernardini...... It's interesting how it works - that the Sheikh believes DC would slaughter Bernardini and not the other way around? Funny, I've never heard him say such a thing. It's just as possible that they think Bernardini would stomp over DC; in any case, regardless of what the Sheikh thinks of his colts' abilities, he'd want to avoid having them run against each other for the simple reason that each could clean up wherever they went. Why aim for the same prizes?

I don't believe Invasor is ducking Bernardini, but if you read the quotes in the DRF article, it's pretty clear that Tom was very confident in his colt facing Invasor (saying that the older horse would have given his own colt a tough battle, implying that Bernardini would win). Horses are avoiding Bernardini (read the DRF article from a couple of days ago) and Kieran is giving that colt the utmost respect - he knew how good he was before the Preakness. Therefore, it seems to me that if anyone would resort to ducking, it would be Invasor's connections.
