If you thought the Derby Point System was poorly devised...

The Kentucky Oaks point system is much worse ...

However, Churchill Downs even managed to somehow top the both of them with its point system for the 'Road to the Roses' Fantasy Game.

According to the current leaderboard...

Mardar Farms Stable is ranked #1 on the Road to the Roses leaderboard right now with 600 points.

Here is the leading stable in all of it's glory:

It's a six horse stable, of six different horses that are all named Verrazano. Well played, sir.

Derby Trail poster 3Kings currently has the top scoring stable in the contest that doesn't have multiple entries.

Quote:

Horse 1:
Revolutionary
Horse 2:
Goldencents
Horse 3:
Flashback
Horse 4:
Verrazano
Horse 5:
Orb
Horse 6:
Normandy Invasion
Nice going man ... your six horses ran 1-2 in the Santa Anita Derby. 1-2 in the Wood. 1st in the Florida Derby and 1st in the Louisiana Derby.

Thanks. It it will probably be a shame that my only worthwhile horse racing opinions will be registered worthless by someone thinking outside of the box.

It was a brilliant strategy by whoever did it, if they let it stand.

I can't imagine they will though.

Are you going this year? BT and l will have the half acre roped off on the backstretch as always.

"It has come to our attention that certain players of RTTR have opted
for a strategy that features the selection of one horse for multiple
positions in their stable(s). Although, CDI did not envision players
utilizing this strategy it is completely allowed under the RTTR Official Rules.

As with any product launched by Churchill Downs we are always looking for ways
to refine and improve game play for our players. Rest assured that we will
carefully assess this strategy and its place in future versions of RTTR."

LOL!

If Verrezano finishes 3rd or better in the Kentucky Derby this guy is a lock to win it all.

Think about that for a second ... in order to win the entire contest, all he needed was for an odds-on favorite to win the Wood Memorial and for him to comeback and run 3rd or better in the Kentucky Derby.

That's what Churchill Downs gets for hiring marketing people to do something that involves common sense and an understanding of horse racing.

nothing like working a bad system

PeteMugg 04-13-2013 10:58 AM

Churchill should at least pony up with extra prizes for those that played as the rules were intended. Pretty sure they can afford it and would appease everyone concerned.

lemoncrush 04-13-2013 01:35 PM

I'm not surprised by their reaction. There's nothing in the official rules that says you can't do this. Taking the same horse multiple time was an oversight when they threw this game together, and it's too late for them to change the rules now.
Props to the guy that figured out how to beat the system. If this game cost money to play, a lot of people would be pissed, but for a free contest, I guess

Danzig 04-13-2013 01:50 PM

the people maddest about it are probably the same ones kicking themselves for not doing the same thing!

I love the way Rydilluc would be coming into this race if it were run with under the old rules

At least we get a complete bet against to go along with the Dubai horse

Rydilluc is definitely not a dirt horse imo. He was very mediocre at the 2yo sale. Didn't handle it at all in his lone try either...getting beat 22 lengths after gradually fading all the time in his debut.

I thought he gave an honest effort Saturday, had to use a ton early to clear from the far post, and was only beaten a length or so. His presence in the derby would have added another dimension ala Animal Kingdom who was unproven over dirt as well if memory serves.

It may just be the fact that this is the first year of the new system, but there is as little disparity in the current field as I can recall seeing in recent memory. There's maybe a half dozen honest contenders in the bunch. And that might be generous.

Reminds me of the kid who exploited loop holes in the Presques Island Trifecta contest and won thousands of dollars. not to mention fed 2 homeless shelters with free hot dogs for a months.. What was the kids names?

Calzone Lord 04-15-2013 01:36 PM

You don't have to lobby for it Freddy, the first son is getting named Freddy Mo. Already decided.
