And will be left as holes in the record books, no official winner of any of those TdF. They would need to investigate any competitor that was handed the titles with the same vigor and they just won't do it.

i'm not sure it's any better than what you posted but the issue isn't that they don't want to investigate but that so many of those who would potentially be given the title are already confirmed user's.

there isn't a clean podium finisher in any of those years. drug use was endemic so finding someone who hasn't already confessed usage or on a team known to be providing epo to it's riders would probably require dipping far below the top 10. and even then you'd have to wonder.

There is a great book called blood sport about the initiation of EPO into sport. Basically the likelihood of users from that era is about 85-90 percent, probably higher.
