Malala

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/11/op...rage.html?_r=0

i'm not sure how many here have seen the original story, or all that's happened since. i check the news for updates on this girl. i hope that she is able to recover from this attack, and live a full life, and will be able to continue her fight.

thousand and thousands marched over the weekend, outraged at the shooting of this young girl. maybe this will be the catalyst to get pakistan moving more towards fighting the taliban, rather than continuing to try to sit on the fence.

malala is now in the uk. doctors are hopeful that she will make a full recovery. she is able to move her extremities; she was removed from a ventilator from what i read, but they did choose to put her back on it.

I hope she not only makes it but returns to Pakistan and becomes their President.

There can not be a sicker group on earth than the Taliban.

Somebody on Twitter commented, "Nothing more threatening to the existence of terrorists than an educated child with a book"

Hope she continues to improve.

That was tried with Benazir Bhutto. Didn't turn out so well, unfortunately.

You're right but that's more of a reason to fight on. All great civil rights movements occurring in the U.S. were not started by people outside of the group pursuing their civil right but by the group itself. Imagine if blacks had called it quits following MLK's assassination?

I've said before that I believe the only way to take the extreme out of extreme Muslimism is to empower the Muslim women.

Malala and her father could become a Rosa Parks moment in that movement.

with enough benizirs and malala's, things will get better. the majority wants peace and freedom. seeing that tens of thousands protested this wknd about malala's shooting gives me hope that pakistan will straighten themselves out.

Of course the majority want peace and freedom. I would think that is common to all cultures.

Maybe Malala's case will bring about "enough is enough" mentality from the majority who want peace.

Fantastic story pushing her for Time's Person of the Year

Quote:

This is a golden opportunity for Republican leaders to join Malala and speak out forcefully in support of women’s rights throughout the world. Furthermore, it is an opportunity for our leaders to distinguish real women’s rights issues from the fabricated issues peddled by the left. It is insulting to claim that women are oppressed in our country unless the government pays for their birth control.

Is it not disgraceful to complain about made-up discrimination against women in this country when girls in other countries are aborted or killed after birth because their parents do not want to pay for their dowries when they get older? Does having to pay for a one dollar condom without a government grant compare to a woman being murdered in an “honor killing” by her family simply because she had premarital relations :tro::tro:?
