problem is, the 1% are the ones who pay the poLIEticians, thus getting what they want.

"Based on 2010 census data, the middle class would be the sixty percent of Americans with household incomes from $20,001 to $100,065.

So many Romney supporters voting against themselves you have to wonder WTF are they thinking? Do we have that many 1%er's posting on Derby Trail??? Voting for a man who made his fortune firing people and shipping jobs out of the country and doing it on borrowed money... That is one thing but voting for someone who under the guise of lowering taxes will actually be raising their taxes... Is this whole campaign a ruse for him to LOWER his own taxes???

I don't think there are too many Romney supporters on here, just a group fed up with DC as a whole in most cases. Actual number of supporters is likely around 4-5.

I guess they are "F'ing" thinking that they don't want to vote for socialism, no matter how well marketed and advertised.

Adjusted Gross Income: $379,000

joeydb 09-27-2012 09:03 AM

By the way, not trying to be political in this next statement:

Can't we just find what the median income is (rather than the mean - which can be distorted by large incomes of the George Soroses and Warren Buffets of the world), go a standard deviation to each side - that's the range, and call it a day?

which is why it's baffling that people still support either party.

I agree with this. The unknown is often more appealing than than the status quo. It is hard to believe in a country of this size that these are the two options. We are in trouble either way.

Interesting - did not expect that: average less than median.

At any rate, whichever metric is used, or we can come up with two definitions for completeness since they do change over time, middle class is an income based term.

There should be a mathematical reference for it that both liberals and conservatives can agree with.

The policies to implement - obviously a different story.

Middle-class is income based for sure but it is so regional it can't be quantified so easily. I was middle-class in suburban NJ but at the same (close any way) income level in Denver it is a very different scenario.

there is a math reference. it's just a matter of whether a pol pays attention to the facts, or wishes to use his own opinion.

income is one thing, cost of living another. i'm sure there's an average and median for that as well.

True - I agree. Ironically enough, one thing that factors into cost of living is taxation. Anything that reduces gross income to "take home" income (why should there be any other kind?) is a factor to overall standard of living and the amount of options an individual has.
