While Michelle is over in England attending any event and any dinner she chooses, women, specifically single mothers are trying to get dinner ready for the kids, make sure they get their homework done, maybe make lunches for tomorrow (if she's got them going to private schools where there are no state paid for lunches) and grab a wink or two of the Olympics Mrs. Obama is sitting front and center for.

She needs a salary? In addition to your million a year?

well, since the first lady has to leave her job to become a member of the white house staff.....why shouldn't she get paid? it's not occurred to me before. but in this day and age, with more and more women working, perhaps it is time to explore compensation for the hours that the first lady (or first man, when the time comes) puts in. it's expected that she be an ambassador, take up a cause, make speeches, meet foreign dignitaries, etc, etc. time is money.

How about the daughters? All those photo obligations while visiting mexico?
Hell what about the frigg'n dog, being woken up and dragged out everytime obama lands?

Do you think a first lady could serve out of duty to the country?

Especially since their spouse (in this case) never making more than 300K/(100K in the private sector) a year and never to make less than a couple mil a year till he dies? Or are they that greedy?

your questions are silly. obviously the underage kids are just that. and it's got nothing whatsoever to do with greed. things change. just as the common man is no longer welcome to pop in to the white house for a visit at any time, the role of women in the household has changed dramatically. it's assumed that when a guy gets elected, his wife will become first lady-but time is money. several recent first ladies have had careers of their own, which they put on hold. and yes, i know, it's their choice-but it isn't really. they have to give up any chance of having their own career for the next four to eight years, while they take on quite a lot of work, unpaid. i'm not saying they should garner a 7 figure salary-but i do see a point in bringing up compensation.

I completely disagree as simply being the first lady allows one to make a rich (250K) living simply dictating cook, children’s coloring books and giving commencement speeches.

Give these people what a juror makes in a day!

Obama never "jumped the shark"

Obama never said the First Lady deserved a salary.

Obama merely joked that right now his wife wasn't earning any money. He didn't say she should be. He talked about when she was working.
