Haskell

Paynter at 3-2 ML?

Seems excessive to me.

Why? He absolutely fits the front end profile and the race has turned into a Bob Baffert benefit race. What I cant figure out for the life of me is why Dullahan goes here?

I agree with the Baffert factor and that he should be the favorite but it seemed really low with two others guaranteed to take loads of $.
Dullahan is never going to get what he wants apparently. Shame too, horse would be something on grass.

I miss Haskell day most of all.

Generally speaking, the Monmouth main track has not been the speed biased highway of years past this meet. In fact it's played just the opposite fairly often. That's not to say they won't soup it up for Haskell Day.

i believe a few weeks back they said this was the last hurrah on dirt for dullahan-unless he wins of course! that they would be going back to the green if he just didn't do well.

I can't wait for Dullahan to get back on the grass. Just so this nonsense about how good he'd be on the grass will end.

The field is trash, he is supposed to win and win big.

Why?

Because he ran so well at CD in the Derby Trial, or because he dominated a weak group of Alw horses with a perfect setup which generated a big figure, or he controlled the pace at a freak distance yet could not hold off an average horse?

Don't get me wrong, he could develop into a nice horse but I am betting against him at 3/2 or lower.

If a horse like Nonios takes to dirt I think he is very interesting.

Is he? Don't get me wrong. I think he wins here but when you look at it subjectively, I don't know that it can be said he "should" as if he's the clear best horse. In Gemologist, you have a horse that's won a grade one race and a grade two. Payner doesn't have a graded stakes win yet. In Gemologist, you've got a horse that's won five of six races and over $700k while Paynter has lost more races than he's won and he's earned $350k. I think if you took the names of the two horses off of the pps and asked people which horse should be favored, Gemologist might get the call.

Redemption Day for Gemologist, he destroys this field

Gotta love the fact that Romans is saying the Pacific Classic is possible for Dullahan now. Since fake dirt is the only surface he's done anything on, maybe it's not so crazy.

alysheba4 08-03-2012 02:30 PM

that mule will be up the track

I think so too. But he would have been up the track in his next dirt race anyway.

alysheba4 08-03-2012 02:53 PM

i should not use the term "mule" to anyone connected to this horse. i apologize.

I told you it wasn't so crazy. Just kidding. I thought he had zero shot today.
