SO much for Polytrack being Slow

Man I know some of the other races were not quite as fast last night at Woodbine, but WOW 120.2 for 7/8 is race horse time anywhere. Could it be the more they run on the new surface the faster it may be???

No its just a different type of "polytrack" than Woodbine. And Hollywood will have yet another unique kind.

eurobounce 09-21-2006 11:12 AM

Well it is incredible with what they have done with the surface at Turfway. Not only is it faster and less kickback, but horses absolutely love it. It is simply amazing. I was at a Turfway board meeting the other night and the numbers are amazing. The projected number is unreal as well. The number of barn inquiries for the winter is out of this world. Finally they got it right.

No you can't. Especially for those people who love horse racing but do not have deep pockets.

Yes and No. Turfway "tweaked" their PolyTrack surface. Both are similar but the % of components are different.

Hmmmmm

Just wondering if Woodbine could have tweaked the track a little bit, I just looked at the works from this morning and they were pretty quick the fastest 1/2 of the morning was 45.4 and the fastest work of the day for 5/8's was 59.2.

They prob will at some point. But no one knows what the results were going to be until they run on the surface.

Wow, the horses must be really loving the stuff... I may have been wrong, and synthetic surfaces may really be the right way to go at some of the tracks in the U.S. I really like those results...

Let's see how Hollywood does...

it's certainly a lot better than last meet in regards to the kickback and the times. maybe this plastic stuff will work out after all. i know that they changed the mixture to decrease the kickback and it looks like faster times resulted as well but.......... is the track still "safe"? i have to wonder if they are going faster, is it still as cushiony? isn't it the "cushion" that makes it "safe"?

since everyone seems to be going to it, i hope it works out and the adjustment they've made at turfway is encouraging but i still have concerns about long-term effects.

The "tweaked" surface is just as safe if not safer the the original.

Very good point. I noticed the same thing.

I talk to a few more trainers at Woodbine So maybe you guys at Turfway can speak for it but the only negative thing I have heard is that the polytrack at Woodbine has a tendancy to stick to there legs but only after races funny thing one trainer told me that some were using non stick Cooking spray on the horses legs before they ran and low and behold they said it worked.

Kind of interesting Huh

Kind of a neat little tid-bit right there. At Turfway, the stuff sort of falls off--kind of like real dry dirt.

Very interesting to see the data come in and first hand accounts of experiences with the surface. I do know that engineers are very good at perfecting new technology.

And the first G1 on poly will be Oct 6 at Keeneland, The Lanes End...geesh, they have leveled the overall main track itself and we'll be looking at a whole new track there, not just a new surface.

fyi, i have started a new job. i'm happy about that. but i won't have the time like i used to for horse racing and posting as much. that's kind of a bummer for me but i'm thankful for the job.

Round Pen the whole tweaking thing has had my interest and I agree.
All teh wonderful marketing material about this stuff said it was maintenance free and required only harrowing once a day.
Funny that now all of a sudden Turfway had to redo it all and now Woodbines seems to be able to be "tweaked". Funny, the marketing guys said that this was not so, just a uniform surface that required no maintenance.
Remington Park tried some surface awhile back that was like Poly, and it produced wickedly fast times.
