Belmont Winner

Union Rags

You can thank me later

I'll thank you now for contributing to yet another underlaid mutuel on that sucker horse.

munster705 05-21-2012 04:28 PM

He was flying late in the Derby and had plenty of excuses.....I'll Have Another won't be at his best after running his eye balls off 2 in a row....the rest o them are heading to the glue factory after the race....

Can you provide your rationale?

Sorry I asked.

Why? Do you disagree?

How'd that work out with Went the Day Well?

slotdirt 05-21-2012 04:33 PM

I don't hate Union Rags in the Belmont, but I can't see how he'll improve enough to win. I think Matz overthought his options with him after the Derby.

Went the Day Well was always questionable on dirt....Union Rags is not.

Given the brilliance of your last Belmont Stakes selection, I doubt anyone on this board will ignore your selection....

You'd make a great detective...

I'm not as against him as others. I was being sincere when asking for your rationale. But there are plenty of horses that can "fly late" and manage to continuously come up short as an underlay.

Personally, I don't think the speed ceiling is much higher than what rags has already shown. Thus, you're counting on iha regressing. I don't see that happening....at least not 14 points.

FATPIANO 05-21-2012 05:38 PM

Alpha clearly dislikes Churchill Downs, just look at him on a NY track, never worse than second, will relish the distance, and is fresh , just like Union Rags, it could be the cold exacta, just like last years Champagne, As Woody Stephens said "When you cross the Hudson, those buildings get awful big" and he should know. Won 5, that's right 5 str8 Belmonts..............

Thunder Gulch 05-21-2012 06:03 PM

Maybe it just looks like Alpha likes New York because he doesn't face much when he's there. Best G1 effort is either a distant 2nd to Union Rags or a 2nd to Gemologist beating 3rd place Teeth of the Dog. He did "crush" Speightcity and Tiger Walk in the Withers.

I was a big Rags believer, and with the Belmont on deck, I can't figure out why I liked him so much. My eyes were fooling me when my head was saying "look at the figs".

I'm also intrigued by alpha. Seems like Alpha and Paynter are the only horses fast enough to potentially upset iha if he runs his race, which I assume he will.

tywizard 05-21-2012 08:22 PM

What do others think about the race? Who can beat I'll Have Another?

More specifically, thoughts on Paynter?

I think this is what they mean by a cinch. We may even get a price.:)

richard burch 05-21-2012 09:44 PM

i think dullahan is a bigger threat than u.rags to ruin the crown.

goodcopy 05-21-2012 10:10 PM

I Can't Wait

:)Union Rags, Dullahan and Paynter all have a shot but have to be 5 to 1 or better(which in the case of Union Rags, Dullahan you won't get)
or I would not play them against a dual classic winner with proven tactical speed,a huge will to win and what might be the "Gods are with us" factor in a young talented jock and a whole nation rooting for him!
Paynter and Unstopple U appear to be enough "Speed types" or you just might see I'll Have Another go out and run them off there feet Ala Secretariat(no comparison intended)
Of course this is all speculative banter at this early juncture but I am going to be on pins and needles for 3 weeks talking thinking and hoping for a triple crown winner and ultimately a great story and uplifting event for our sport and the nation:eek:
