This involves the brother of former Congressman "Dollar" Bill Jefferson who is serving time in federal prison after being convicted of bribery. Dollar Bill is the guy who stashed $90,000 in ill-gotten gains in his freezer. The Jeffersons were sort of a political dynasty in New Orleans, and they used their political power and elected offices to enrich themselves. Another brother, Mose Jefferson, was convicted of bribery in a separate case. A sister, Betty Jefferson, got in trouble for stealing money from taxpayer-supported charities and from her assessor office.

The brother of former U.S. Rep. Bill Jefferson is lawyer shopping, as police investigate the death of his wife.

Archie Jefferson has reached out to criminal defense attorneys, though he has not been named a suspect in this case.

WDSU-TV spoke with defense attorneys on Monday who said they have been contacted about representing Archie Jefferson.
