Notre Dame, AL central, NL wildcard, Giants

Well I guess I'm glad I had to go to a wedding on Saturday and didn't see ND get crushed. Friend of mine saw it and said they played like hungover frat guys. There goes this year.
AL Central appears to gave sorted itself out and is all over except the crying. Chisox just too many back with too few to play. Detroit has a cupcake schedule from here on in and should win the division setting up Yankees-Twins, Detroit-Oakland matchups in the 1st round.

NL wildcard race sure narrowed itself down the last week from 10 teams to 3 teams, 2 of whom will go.
San Diego's rise to the top of the NL west was startling. Dodgers, Philly, and San will battle out the wild card spot.
The Giants comeback win saved the football season for me. WIth ND down in college, the Giants appeared on their way to an 0-2 start which would have doomed them and their chances to win the division. With their incredibly tough schedule, especially early on, the key to them winning their division was to go 3-3 on the first 6 games and beat Philly on the road. AT 1-1 they need only split the next 4 games before getting to the easier part of the schedule and a home win later on against Philly would give them a tiebreak edge should they finish with the same record. Eli finally realized that throwing a to a receiver who is 6 foot 5 inches might be the way to go, its about time.

Mike-
Looks like the Padres and Dodgers will both make the playoffs. Not a big deal who gets in via the division title or the wildcard, in my opinion. Both will be underdogs in their first rounds vs the Cards and Mets.

As of now the Dodgers are up 3.5 in the wildcard and only 1/2 behind in the division. None of those teams chasing the Dodgers/Padres for that wildcard are good enough to make up 3.5 games in 2 weeks. I think the Dodgers pull the "upset"n tonight and beat Peavy in their stadium to regain the division lead, for now.

Amercian League, I will concede is all set. The White Sox blew it in a big way and are done. Stick a fork in them. Looks like you guys get the Twins in the first round and I expect a Yankee sweep. I'll take the A's in the other matchup which sets up what for all intensive purposes should be the World Series....A's vs Yankees. That should go the distance.

Phillies? It will be Mets-Phillies to go to the WS.

All up to them.I mean,Lugo,Ethier, and Lofton all failed when they had men on base to do damage with.Russel Martin came through, but that was about it.Kent,Garciaparra, and J.D. POOH all fouling out/striking out/ grounding out/whimping out. They sure are due to hit in a big way. They usually bat better than this at home, but f'n San Diego pitchers have made them look like women most of the times they meet.Worst thing about tonite is that Penney is pretty unreliable.Sometimes that guy gets hit very hard.Last time (in Chicago)he didn't.That game(if repeated)would be a welcomed sight.2 hotheads(Penney,Peavy) tonite.1st team to get the opposing pitcher hot, will probably feast.

It seems their younger players are running outta gas(Ethier,Martin, couple of pitchers) Not happy with Ethier throwing to wrong base repeatedly...and the coaches just sit there. If LA wins tonite, I think they can have a good week.

I don't think the kids run outta gas.I think they are not use to the pressure they are now under.Maybe they handle it better next year.Russ is a very game individual though.Doesn't surprise me that, out of the rookies, he is the one that hit it out to get them even yesterday. Very mature for his age, and experience.I hope he can keep Penney calm tonite, and keep him from throwing that fastball too much.

Phils getting beat by Aramiz Ramirez. He has hit 2 out against them.I think he is a free agent (not sure.)What a mint he will get.
