Mike Smith

Will ride daddy nose best.

Not exactly a strong endorsement of bodemiester unless he had already been told he would not get that mount.

Dnb moves up on my list regardless.

You're moving him up strictly based on adding Mike Smith? :zz:
I would guess Mike Smith wants a ride in the Derby, and this was the first/best opportunity that came up.

Keep in mind, most jockeys don't even know how to use their brain.

Has won 2 of last 3 Breeders Cup Classics and BLAMED himself for not winning 3 in row.Still a big time jockey in big races.

Bodemeister is extremely light on earnings. I'm not sure what the purse distribution is, but he'd probably have to win this weekend to even have a chance of getting in the gate. Smith is just making sure he has a horse for the race.

tywizard 04-12-2012 12:22 PM

Yes I do place value on him. At CD. In big time races.

So when he gets the mount on a horse I already liked somewhat that does move the horse up.

I'm assuming you aren't a fan of his? Or are you questioning the value of a rider upgrade in general?

Danzig 04-12-2012 12:36 PM

smith, like most jocks, is overrated. some can mess up a horse, but most of the time i doubt they do much to improve a horses chances.
if a horse can't do it, he can't do it, regardless of jock. they can't give a horse more talent.
now, if you have a horse that's difficult and a jock can calm him, that's a good thing. but in most cases, it doesn't matter who you put on them.

Danzig,i agree with you for the most part.Angel Codero carried Bold Forbes on his back the last 1/4 of a mile in the Belmont Stakes.
Imo the bigger the race the more important a jockey becomes.

You do realize though that this statement implies they all have one, right?

Just checking. :p

HI. Welcome to the forum.

Please be advised we all would have gotten the whole blame thing had you not felt the need to assume we're all idiots and posted it in a hit-you-over-the-head manner.

Welcome though. :)

Back to the subject at hand...

It's great what Smith accomplished with the 5,000 wins but ummmm making it like he is so much of an asset? I'm sorry but let's not overrate the man here.

He's good but by no means the best or even close.

They all have brains, which is how they use their senses, breathe, etc.

It's higher brain function that is in doubt.

Glad to be aboard! At one point in his career was elite rider i do agree hes no longer the best..but still has enough to win big races.

You think he was the main reason Zenyatta ran well?

Remember. He's also the jockey that took Flashy Bull 48-wide around the track in the Derby 5 years ago, and finished 14th. :)

Danzig 04-12-2012 04:26 PM

what got me with smith lately was after the preakness non-run by giacomo, he said immediately after the race that he thought the horse flipped his palate. trainer said that was hogwash.
of course all jocks have bad rides, stupid rides, stupid comments....i'm sure him no more than others...

and i'm pretty sure i could have won all those races on zenyatta.

Shouldn't you get your facts straight first before we consider your opinion?

pointman 04-12-2012 05:03 PM

Smith actually thought that sane human beings other than Giacomo's connections would think that there had to be a reason other than he was slow that excused his 4th place finish in the Preakness?

You guys are credible.

The comments were made after the Belmont.

He finished 3rd in the Preakness.

Wow, that really takes apart my point that he sucked up for 3rd instead of 4th in the Preakness. It doesn't really matter which race he said it after.

I can see that you are much more careful than those who you criticize about the accuracy of your statements.

I got Mike Smith as the the 6th best jockey in the country right now and top 12 all time. LEGEND STATUS.

Speaking of which...

My new Saudi roommate is converting my land into a farm, and we just got some young ducks and chickens. The chickens are all female (hens to be)!

The pigs we are getting are going to be named after two wop friends we have, but I'll make sure to get one of the hens named Joe(y).

Or maybe Josephina!

Rudeboyelvis 04-12-2012 09:09 PM

I really hadn't paid much mind at all to the Sunland Derby as it looked to me that Castaway and Ender Kienvel (whatevah) went on a suicide mission and Contreras moved too soon on Isn't He Clever.... Daddy Noes Best simply sucked up a bunch of cash based upon 3 pinheads screwing up rides...

On second pass though, it looks to me like Contreras never was able to get IHC off his right lead and wilted in the stretch run - either way, Daddy Nose Best is a toss for me - he was fortunate enough to cash a huge check, but the streak of Sunland Derby winners repeating at Churchill ought to remain intact at zero. Mike gets the suck up mount the same way that the horse got a suck up win.
