ATR PROGRAM NOTE: Jack Whitaker (3/13)
Am delighted to promote a visit from broadcasting legend Jack Whitaker on ATR Tuesday, March 13 at 11:00a.. In addition to conversation of his appreciation for racing, we will discuss the current state of broadcast journalism of sports and his long, storied career. Thanks to Randy Moss for helping facilitate Whitaker's visit.

This has the makings of an awesome ATR visit. Jack Whitaker has worked some of the most memorable racing days in my life, Secretariat's Derby to Ruffian's match race, to name a few. I look forward to it.

ah, yes...the old days.
welcome to abc's wide world of sports....i'm jim mckay...and then he'd introduce jack whitaker and charlsie canty because they were the horse team. i still miss jim mckay, he was a fabulous sportscaster. unlike some of the current crop-bob costas-ugh. |

A legend!
|
I have no idea who he is. Although I do know how the current cast of sports broadcasters would make this guy look like Plato.

Fantastic job with the show today Steve. Really great to hear Jack Whitaker's thoughts and recollections of racing throughout the years.
|
Jesus Steve...I got to listen to the archive just now and I can't believe I'm sitting at my desk and wiping tears from my eyes hearing Jack and those replays. Please do this more often! Get more of these old guys that you and I grew up listening to on and lets give them their due...
Thanks again! |
I loved hearing his voice again. It's remarkable that it has changed very little over the years. I could go through the segment piece by piece, but that's not necessary because I enjoyed every bit of it.
But as soon as the 1973 clip with Jack's voice began, I got major chills up my spine. Thanks for bringing it all back...again. I will never tire of hearing that as long as I live. |

Glad so many were able to tune in and enjoyed it. And thanks for saying so... It was a tremendous thrill for me to have him on the show.

Heard the replay this morning. Amazing. It really drove the point of how special this sport is to the people that care about it. Where else are you going to hear an 88 year old man recall one event thirty years ago that meant so much to him that he gets choked up talking about it today? It's great to listen to the interviews with people like him. Kudos!!!!
