Saw that on the eve news....is he a rightie or leftie?...he is co-founder of The Carlyle Group...

How will Former President George W. Bush personally make millions (if not billions) from the War on Terror and Iraq? The old fashioned way. He'll inherit it.

Its nice they want to repair the concrete.....to bad they have not donated that money to all the homeless families that were not living beyond their means when the bread winners lost their jobs and people like the Ellen show are getting sponsors to donate money to people living in their cars.Their kids are amazing one little girl won a national science award all the while living in a homeless shelter with her family. To me those people donating money to a freaking piece of concrete that looks more like a big D*ick than anything should have their head examined......why not donate that money to really help someone.....having a memorial to a dead President does nothing for someone who doesnt have a home to sleep in. Jackwagons.

do you know how many tourist dollars are made from people going to d.c. to see things like that big D*ck as you put it? i can only imagine all the money spent by the hundreds of thousands of visitors to the mall and it's monuments and museums. no doubt all that helps the local economy, and a lot of people, plenty. i'm glad someone stepped up to provide private funds, so public funds can go to worthwhile programs like the ones you mentioned. and if that fellow is as philanthropically minded as he seems to be, i doubt the washington monument is the only thing he's giving toward.

Really? Uhm ok well there ya go, Glad that we got that cleared up. It makes no sense, its a national landmark and it would get fixed without the 7.5 million dollar donation. Maybe Im just stupid...ah no maybe I most likely am. Just would think 7.5 donated to homeless families would have been better spent.
Think about the whole D.C area and it makes you wonder what they do with any of the dollars they pull in considering most of the people right outside the area are on welfare and live in poverty and murder and gang violence are the number 1 statistic. Glad to see those millions in revenue at work.

you're right-it would have been repaired one way or another. this way it's now paid for.
and yes, there are folks in d.c. who need help. i shudder to think the annual budget for people receiving help there. i know it's one of the most expensive areas to live in; that's one of the reasons tony and i moved south.
one thing i guess i don't get tho-you're saying the guy could have given his money he gave more wisely...so it makes me wonder what you think about all the moneyed folks putting cash into your line of work-do you think it could be better spent elsewhere? just give all the money spent on horses to people who need it?

It is easy to criticize how other people spend their money but (in theory) the 7.5 million that the govt doesnt spend on the monument can go to "better" causes. The Washington Monument is a tribute to the man who is chiefly responsible for the countries existence. His memory and thememory of the brave soldiers who fought with him AND Washington's conduct after the war was won (not becoming a King or dictator as he surely could have) deserves to be maintained.

The elite don't care about poor people. They like showing off big phallic objects. And if they personally don't have one they'll help build or repair one.

If they really respected George Washington they would spend that 7.5 million lobbying to restore our constitution and remove these tyrannical laws that overstep it.

and in related news.... Al Capone donated to the Catholic church and ran/financed soup kitchens.
