This woman makes me sick

http://www.paulickreport.com/news/ra...-them-is-dead/

Just read some of her quotes. A heartless human being. What makes it worse is that it's the obvious tip of the iceberg when it comes to people falsely promising to give a racehorse a new home. Apparently places like New Holland and Canadian slaughterhouses qualify as new homes these days. It also makes it that much harder for people involved in legitimate rescues. Shame on her and people like her.

absolutely disgusting.

this part piqued my interest:

Lefever was recommended to Patterson by another trainer at Penn National in Grantsville, Pa., and he heard positive things from other horsemen about her efforts to retrain and re-home ex-racehorses.

now, we all know there are supposed to be rules-was she recommended by other trainers who knew full well what was going on? if she had such a good track record, who gave her that record? she evidently didn't earn such praise. are trainers paying lip service to efforts to place horses? are they turning a blind eye to people who aren't actually re-training horses?

I don't understand how there are people who aren't human. How they exist with absolutely no humanity, no decency, no soul. How they can commit the acts they do... how others can stay quiet.

I think there are times when people read posts like this and it's so horrific and mind-numbing that they don't say anything cause what do you say?

What do we do here? What can we do? I'm not asking in a throw-your-hands-up-in-the-air-defeatist way I really want to know

The industry leaders... do they address things like this? Maybe they do and have and I haven't noticed (trying to be fair)?

A Racing Commissioner and I mean someone incorruptable and respected and who can deal with everything, all problems including this kind of thing... is that a start for - if nothing else - letting people who can possibly help know? Are some people so insulated that they don't know? Isn't this the kind of thing that we should address before groups like PETA who will link it to the horible people in racing and turn it around and put their own spin on it?

It's sickening and sad and it makes people like me who would never think of trying to physically hurt someone want to pick up a gun and go and torture these people. There have to be uniform rules and laws and fines and ways to make these things followed.

How do we help? What do we do to show our outrage?

Danzig 01-16-2012 01:44 PM

some tracks think they've come up with an answer-holding trainers accountable for where they place unwanted horses. but it's not a fix if trainers say they look for reputable homes, but really aren't doing so. i really think if they dig deeply enough into this story you'll find trainers had this woman pick up horses knowing full well there was no way she could be handling the numbers of horses she was taking. out of sight, out of mind i think.
with the job i have now, i hope to be able to afford setting up a retirement haven for horses in the next few years. it's something important to me-i hope to make this dream a reality.

The sad part is, if it's the same Kelsey Lefever, she is working as a trainer and giving lessons at a Great Scott Farm in PA since December. I wonder if the little kids she gives lessons to know that she did this.

Well, she's being charged with one count of deceptive business practices (Grade 3 felony) and four counts of theft by deception (two of them Grade 3 felonies, so that's a pretty big deal - if convicted she'll do time.

What doesn't amaze me in the slightest is that they've already found a way to skirt the regulations by getting a guy on the inside to set up the deal and having the transactions take place basically in the parking lot, thereby circumventing the pressure put on the auction house to verify and report animals with lip tats:

According to Rotz, a New Holland Horse Auction employee named John Whiteside put the horses in his trailer thereby avoiding them being sold through the auction ring, where it was more likely they would be identified as recently-raced Thoroughbreds. Many racetracks, including Penn National, have adopted rules in recent years punishing owners and trainers of horses that ended up at kill auctions. Anti-slaughter critics have said the tracks are not stringently enforcing those rules, however, and kill auctions help avoid detection of the ex-racehorses when they are sold privately.

Rotz told Trooper Shelly the horses were supposed to be auctioned off and that he was “nervous as hell” because Whiteside had made the same arrangements with him in the past. Whiteside asked Rotz if he wanted to buy the horses, and Rotz took them to his farm and weighed them. A subpoena of Rotz’ bank records disclosed that Rotz wrote two checks to Whiteside on May 21, 2011: one for $374.50 and another for $1,286.50, the latter check’s memo line stating “4 horses.”

If there's money to be made, believe me, there's someone who will take it.

so sorry the guy who lost his horse had to deal with this-but it just goes to show you that he evidently was the first one to follow up. others who came before him share her guilt.

That was my thought when I read this:

"Also not answered in the affidavit of probable cause is an explanation of how Lefever had such ready access to the secured stable area of Penn National. One trainer who spoke to the Paulick Report on the condition of anonymity said Lefever was a regular visitor to the track, bringing her truck and trailer to the stable area despite not being licensed in any capacity by the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission. The trainer wondered how Lefever was allowed such access when security guards stringently require licensed personnel to display their badges."

I have a pretty good idea how.

Just saw this posted by Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue, Inc. on Facebook:
Quote:

You guys remember Jack (best friend of Mattie) - the horse adopted by Paige and was on the cover of the St. Petersburg Sunday Times? THIS is the chick who LIED and sent him to the sale sick, injured & in terrible shape...we TRIED to tell folks 3 years ago this chick Kelsey Lefever was dirty & sending horses to kill...and GUESS WHAT...we were told we were crazy, or didn't know what we were talking about...FINALLY this chick is being nailed.

PLEASE SHARE - THIS is what we save them from...nightmare, lying ass people who don't give a rats patooty about horses & will LIE TO YOUR FACE to get your horse & then ship it to slaughter for the almighty dollar. I HOPE THEY NAIL THIS WOMAN (using that term loosely) TO THE WALL!
I wanna know who gave these guys the run around.

probably plenty of people who thought something might be up, but didn't want to get rid of their funnel for unwanted horses. so they pretended she was bonafide, when she wasn't-but she took a lot of horses that they wanted rid of, and in a way that would keep them in the clear with the track.

The Prez can detain her indefinitely. You folks should write him.
