Taliban been P*ssed on.

http://www2.wnct.com/news/2012/jan/1...-t-ar-1804711/

I know this is still alleged, but I can't decide how I feel about this. A big part of me feels like I really don't give two sh*ts about them being treated in that manner...they pretty much deserve it. But then again, I have never been in combat, much less served our country. A good friend I worked with spent 6 months as MP at Gitmo and he never revealed much, but a few stories he did tell about what the prisoners would do aren't very pleasant.

i don't like that this happened...not sure what they were thinking in doing this and having it filmed.
on the other hand, we have asked our men in uniform to perform actions that are truly unimaginable and have to witness some horrible things that will scar a person forever. you can't necessarily judge a soldiers actions based on how things are in 'the real world'. we ask inhuman things of them, and then expect them to never act inhumanely. tough task.

when the first concentration camp was found by u.s. soldiers, some of the soldiers killed the nazi guards. they really lost it-the things they found and saw were horrifying. were they correct in what they did? no. can i say i would feel comfortably judging them harshly for it? not at all.

'war is cruelty. you cannot refine it.' sherman said that, and he's absolutely correct.

It confirms the old adage that it is better to be Pissed Off then Pissed On.

it's a discipline problem at the small unit level. some lieutenant or captain will lose their combat command as they should. it doesn't happen in a well disciplined unit.

the regretable part is this makes it harder for every other u.s. soldier in afghanistan trying to do their job in a counter insurgency.

it's idiotic to do it and 10x more idiotic to film it.

My thought also, why film it..guess one of the guys decided to 'distribute' it..
Feel the same as you on condemnation....earlier i sent a clip to an old Marine bud for his take....think i know his answer.....

Ditto. We are better than that. It's an embarrassment and failure on our part.

Got this email from a Marine vet friend that served in Nam...He said what these Marines did was 'sissy' stuff...they played stick ball with a viet cong brain...

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), a former Army lieutenant colonel, sends THE WEEKLY STANDARD an email commenting on the Marines' video <http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/silence-republican-candidates_616690.html> , and has given us permission to publish it.

“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.

“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?

“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.

“As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”

War is hell, but we are better than that! I've never been shot at by the Taliban but Viet Cong bullets were just as deadly, right is right and wrong is wrong and self-discipline by the Marines is not appropriate here!

lord007 01-15-2012 10:31 AM

I guess it's better than seeing someone from the Taliban cutting a marines head off..

Oh no, The Geneva Convention frowns upon that practice so it never happens..............

A lot of you have made some excellent points and have enlightened us regarding what has happened in the past on 'their' side and our side that would be considered inappropriate behavior by most standards. Yet, some of these actions were committed by Americans fighting a war and a lot of us can’t comment first hand on what that does to a person.

This incident showed poor judgment from those Marines. Our county will make an example out these Marines in an attempt to show the rest of the world how much better we are than they are, and that these types of actions should not be tolerated. To me, that's what will make us win the stupid award after the atrocities that have been committed to Americans mentioned in the comments above.

We should leave it alone and move along but we won’t.

Contradictions are not a good thing.

They tend to render thoughts useless .

We don't have to prove a damn thing to the rest of the world, anyone anywhere witnessing the atrocities of terrorism either see the difference or are blinded by their hatred. We ARE better than this and all of us who have, are or will serve know it!

On video of Taliban corpses, let’s not be so quick to pass judgment..

Leonard Pitts piece on the subject..

The point being, war is a different universe. What seems normal there is appalling here. It is not too much to say that war is a form of madness

The Taliban rapes little boys and kill their daughters out of honor.
Piss on them
