Unfortunately, on the TBD turf course, you will get a bunch of brutal trip/rides in every race. In this race, however, I think Horvat Clan is the horse you want back. This one was behind the 3 that finished on the wire together at the top of the stretch, and went inside, mostly because of how wide the others were, and was never clear through the stretch.

NBA Money did get a wide trip, but was closing well late, and probably would have won had the race been 5 yards longer.

Now, if you want to see a bad ride, watch #7 Papa Carlos from race 10.

She pulled her stable down to Gulfstream, seems like the purse structure, and casino competion from south florida, puts this venue on credit watch???
Thoughts??????

Not just the wide trip... How about the big time premature move on the backstretch. Then turning for home the horse looks totally empty only to come flying again.

There was no big premature move on the backstretch. He began pushing the horse when they approached the far turn and was following the flow of the race. He was certainly wide and the horse was an unlucky loser because of the way he finished up.

It almost looked like he was running in spots. He looked finished top of the stretch and then got into the bridle again and finished up fast.

Tough beat? Sure. But I don't know if it was rider error.

I thought he moved early and wide. He was last really early on. I agree though, spots is exactly how I would put it.

That was the flow of the race. Both the 8 and 10 moved at the same time, and they, along with the 9, finished 1-2-3. If your looking for a patient ride at TBD, you are shat out of luck. It happens once in a blue moon.

What do you think of My Charming Clyde in Tampa's 10th on Friday?

I sure like the name, haven't capped the race yet.

Entirely too kind, that's 75% of the battle.

So thanks so much again.

tampa 6th friday

ok everyone who has commented on the dec 10th tampa 5th and 10th races....many of those horses come back in tampa's 6th on friday...Papa Carlos off a bad ride in MC32 draws the 2 post with same jock....Cause I Said, the early pressured speed in the MC 32 race draws the 3 post...Purincat and NBA Money from the MSW 5th race on the 10th draw posts 4 and 7...throw in 2 more with decent races last in Whereintheworld from post 1 and Delivered from post 10 and 2 firsters who could be live (Yensen from Ness and Bugler from Proctor) and you have one of the most interesting and tough to figure Tampa races so far...would love people's thoughts on this race and how to bet it...my 2 bet back horses were Purincat and NBA Money but now not so sure

Horvat Clan FINALLY returns tomorrow in the 8th against NBA Money (and a handful of others).

FTS Ninja Warrior gonna be awfully tough in there, and may be a nice price too.

There are a lot of interesting pedigree plays in there. Tough race.

Yeah. Tough to take a short price on any horse in that race.

Dahoss 02-01-2012 10:38 PM

A few thoughts on the race.

Score One's dam was 6 for 14 on the turf including a listed stake at Tampa.

Chief Redneck's dam was 5 for 23 on turf, and was in the money in 9 other turf starts, winning over 100k.

Ninja Warrior, as Kev mentioned is bred very strongly for grass, being a full to War Monger, who was 4 for 13 on grass and won over 500k. He's also a half to Brickell who won over 300k on grass. Trainer has had success with Danny Coa riding.

Ransom Canyon's dam was 7 for 15 on grass and she was also a half to 6 figure turf earners.

Horvat Clan is the trip horse.

Soul of the Moon's dam is half to Marcavelly who won a couple of grade 3's on the grass.

Horvat Clan is the one to beat and if he repeats his last, he's going to win. I think the 2,3,4 and 5 are all interesting pedigree plays. I give the edge to Ninja Warrior, although maybe the board tells a better story. The real wild card to me is Score One. Sporadic works, but the kind of horse I've seen light up the toteboard. Very interesting race.

Just watched the replay - how in the hell Goncalves not only doesn't go ass over teakettle into the rail coming out of the chute, but manages a closing 4th is beyond any plausible explanation. Well bred firster mentioned by Hossy (Ransom Canyon) gets it done @ 8-1.

Credit to Goncalves for getting back in the irons and persisting with the horse. Many would have stopped riding at that moment and rushed back to the room to change their drawers.

That said, I hope Ian Wilkes keeps NBA Money at the MSW level. He has the look of a longtime maiden, unless he gets some class relief soon. He is running just well enough to take money, which are the types I love to play against.

I dunno, Mike - I may beg to differ - I'm betting that cost him dearly...took him completely out of his game and spotted the field 6-8 lengths, still managed to rally, finishing better than anyone else (covering ground-wise)... I was thinking the opposite, he has the look of a career MSW lifer on paper and will be over looked next time out, but I'm thinking he's worth using at a nice price next time

He will not be overlooked next out, unless there are a couple beasts in against him. If he runs against the same type group, he will be one of the favorites.

It's not like he has any speed. The bump knocked him back to last where he was probably going to end up anyway. It's a sucker trouble line when a horse that has no speed gets bothered at the start. He made the same closing move on Dec 10 and the public jumped on him the next out where he couldn't hit the board against arguably a slightly better group that the previous race. The competition is only going to get tougher as some of the late bloomers hit the track, then soon enough, he'll have to beat older horses too.

Speaking in Beyer terms as that seems to be the most common way to compare. He got a 50 for his efforts yesterday so in his three tries at Tampa, he is going backwards from a 59 to a 54 to a troubled 50. You aren't winning a straight 3yr old MSW at Tampa running in the 50's. Closing kick or not.

Unless he gets some class relief, he is not getting a dime of my money.
