Three Chimneys' At-Risk Horse Policy

On the page, there's a link to their FB post for the rest of what they had to say.

Three Chimneys definitely deserves a huge thank you. Nice to see them going out of their way to make sure at risk horses get a chance to retire to a good place.

As the ad says, "We must take care of our own."

It appears that Three Chimneys is doing its part, and more. Other farms should take note -- develop and implement a policy, and let the word spread. It's good publicity, it's good for the game, and most importantly it's good for the horses.

Now, what can we do about the old claimers who weren't lucky enough to come from farms such as Three Chimneys?

That's a great question OD. I know some racetracks take 10 or 15 dollars out of an owner's share of the purse supplement for every horse that starts on a given day and it goes to some type of retirement plan for the horses at a particular track.

I thought this was a really cool idea:

Was curious if anyone knew how it went.

It's an interesting idea, but of course TCA only gets $ if the tickets are winners.

After a good day at a Florida track I asked the clerk (who then asked her boss) if there was a box or something set up to take donations for TCA or a thoroughbred charity anywhere at the track. There wasn't, but the both of them thought that it was a good idea. Perhaps it might work, coupled with an announcement or two during the course of the day, asking patrons to make a donation.
