Shug in California

Pretty big move up by Mike Mitchell there. Remember when you actually had to handicap the races based on a horses PP's?

The last time I could remeber when Shug shipped to california other than BC is in 2004 Hollywood Derby where he won with Good Reward, Jerry Bailey aboard. This race is probably the most competitive race of the full meet.

He shipped Parading out there three times back in 09.. finished off the board each time.

First race I ever went to... I will never forget any of those runners.

So sad about Irrefutable.

Poor guy.

Deepest condolences to his people.

To be fair, Parading was competitive in all 3, the Hollywood Gold Cup, Pacific Classic, and Goodwood. I think he was 4th in each one, bidding for the lead in the stretch, but hanging the last part.

Good Reward came out to CA several times as well. IIRC, he was 4th in the Strub behind Rock Hard Ten as a 4yo. A year later, he was 2nd in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar.

That was quite a magical mystery tour for War Element.

Wow what a sad weekend...

I hope they both make it.
